lol
you need to download the qt wallet from the coins you want to mine then its really easy
first find a pool its on ANN of most coins then point your hardware to it for cpu there are few coins that are worthwhile cryptonight ones and for gpu right now i recommend Garlicoin.

P.S. DO NOT USE MINGER GATE use nicehash miner if you're desperate for easy to use.

No, nicehash also has altcoin mining, they just pay miners in bitcoin.

NH miner will benchmark and select profitable coin to mine with your CPU automatically, its a no brainer actually and newbie friendly, it will basically show how much is your estimated payout.

they have also their online calculators in order for you to see the probable profits.

you will not see it until you use their miner, install it, then run benchmark, what you see in their website is only the payout.  they support different type of algo's for mining. takenote that when mining in Nicehash you are basically selling your hashpower with their clients and not directly mining to any coins or algo you want.

Minergate is perfect for fun at your begining.
NiceHash is good too, but fr thr brgining too.
For real mining operation, you have to use a real miner software.
The CPU mining software is calling CPUMiner and the best multi-algo version of it is the Joblo version : CPUMiner-opt.
Look at the "ANN" topic in the "Mining" section of the forum.

Hey thank you! I am also looking for information on how to best mine, likely alt coin, using just CPU with a notebook computer. I may be able to equip one with a discrete graphics card but def not as powerful as once you can put in a desktop system.

Right now I have a fairly old desktop running Windows 7 with an intel quad core 2.33MHz processor and 4GB Ram. This system I'm planning to just upgrade for now, by bumping up the RAM to 8GB and new HD possibly SSD, but the whole architecture, chipset and all can only be upgraded so much; perhaps I will mine something from that desktop as well, if it can when upgraded.

Mainly however, since I do need a desktop replaceable notebook/laptop system I've been holding off buying, I'm now thinking that I can plan to spend maybe $200 more towards processor, maybe intel i-7, or discrete graphics adapter that will give it a chance to mine for a couple of years anyway.

Have any more suggestions on minimal setup?
Was originally going to spend up to $1,200-$2,000 for fairly good laptop, but recently have seen what I need for much less maybe $700-$800 w/discrete graphics. Willing to spend a bit more again for right set up (but rather spend a little on crypto).

Can you mine with systems using combined hashrate of CPU and GPU?
