What's the Deal with Bitcoins Anyway?

http://deals.ebay.com/blog/whats-the-deal-with-bitcoins-anyway/

Quote
Bitcoins are a form of cryptocurrency that have been making the news quite often in recent months. In this video we take a look at this technology, why it's special, and what are often seen as the pros and cons of bitcoin use. The jury's still out on whether bitcoins will become ubiquitous and stand the test of time, or whether new innovations might eventually take their place.

What do you think? Are bitcoins the real deal?

Thanks, that makes it even more fishy.

To the guy responsible for this, (I'm pretty sure he read this): You dun' goofed.

More like an 'infomercial' for bitcoin really. The pros clearly far outweigh any cons in that video.

In light of the crackdown on bitcoin sellers the past few days on Ebay (UK) - it looks like Ebay is sitting on the fence on how to go forward with their uneasy relationship with bitcoin. Bitcoin could be the thing to challenge the Ebay/Paypal monopoly - if a good bitcoin-based alternative comes along.

Well, at least they're soliciting customer input.

The odd thing is asking for input, and not having comments or any kind of directed way to tell them so? Are they just relying on Facebook/Twitter?

I'd be surprised if they did adopt Bitcoin, but stranger things have happened I guess.

I think we often still seem to forget the huge significance of Wordpress' accepting of Bitcoin payment, their platform is highly prevalent across the web, arguably ubiquitous. eBay is only the least likely adopter because of the PayPal conflict, just about every other major presence out there only has an ideological barrier to cross, there is no business reason against it for the vast majority.

My buddy was contacted via voicemail to discuss bitcoins.  He called back and the guy said they have a whole team looking into the bitcoin thing to see how they should either implement it or avoid it.

One thing is they were even debating whether buying/selling bitcoins on ebay was ok given that Paypal is a money service business, so perhaps people wouldn't need to be registered as a money service business if they use ebay to sell the bitcoins because Paypal could act as money service business to the transaction...

bottom line... buy some bitcoins Wink
