Merit is quite confusing since there is no formal explanation about it the first time it was released or implemented... but with the help of the posts and forums here, we get to understand the new system. Even though I actually and honestly need to read more about this stuff.

Maybe a lot of us are concerned about what should we do to add up to our merit points. We should of course be active in
commenting and posting here at bitcointalk.org. The effort of fulfilling the number of posts that we need (or sometimes more than that), commenting
long and sensible comments but end up not getting any merit points since popular forum discussions tend to just flood the posts since it is trending for a certain time.

Can merit points be exchanged legally or properly? like... reading each others' posts and add merit points to the posts "if and only if"
we personally find something interesting, sensible/knowledgeable and helpful?.

EDIT: I already know the answer to my question, if anyone would like to engage in this discussion, you may want to read other else's comments first.

In my point of view merit system is really good and very helpful to the new comers. The hardest effect is on the old members that eager to rank up soon but delayed because of merit.

Its your job to check out the forum "meta" section and get to know about the forum. Not doing so from time to time shows your true nature - that you are mostly active in shitposting and not actually contributing to the forum discussions and/or getting to know about the forum before you start posting in it.

In short so to speak - you should post quality content and that which is unique as well. Its based on the fact the people will give merits to each other when they find another persons content as "merit-able" and as "quality content" which is lacking in this forum in the flood of shitposts to farm accounts and spam signature campaigns.

A long discussion does not always mean you get merit points - people will gradally become lenient about merit. However I am very strict about it because Im very much against the shitposters and one-line posters.

Are you trying to deal with people personally in order to exchange merit points? I would strongly suggest you against this because the consequences will be  there known as "Merit Farming"

Signature campaigns are funded entirely by private enterprise and participants are rewarded in Bitcoin/Altcoin/Tokens etc there is absolutely no correlation between participating in a signature campaign and being rewarded merit nor should there be. Exchanging/trading merit would be unethical and defeat the purpose of what merit achieves.

I'm not entirely sure what the point of this thread is. You're just stating the obvious for the most part.

Merit is quite confusing since there is no formal explanation about it the first time it was released or implemented... but with the help of the posts and forums here, we get to understand the new system.

I think some sort of welcome post should be shown to all new users who sign up here with a brief explanation of the rules and links to check out various stickies about ranks and activity etc. Far too many people sign up here and either break the most basic of rules or just ask the same questions that can easily be found if they spent 30 seconds looking for it.

Yes, and I've read stuffs about merit points that's why I said that with the help of the forums, we get to understand it better. I've just known about that Merit Farming now... and I'm not trying to do that. Thank you for informing me.

To be honest, I'm really not active in reading new stuffs here at BTC talk 'this year'. I've changed stuffs to my original forum post. I'll read more posts about merit then, especially about its policies for me to be more careful next time.

I agree, though I'm not really a long time member here... and I'm not spending lots of time in Bitcointalk, I think it would really be helpful if Bitcointalk would be more user-friendly.

But I believe that the devs made BTC talk like this for a reason. Arousing every ones curiosity and encouraging everyone to strive more for crypto BTC.

Yes that's true... I just got to mention signature campaigns though it should not really be highlighted in this kind of topic (my bad..). I'm more concerened about the posts done trying to answer questions and help other user's concerns especially newbies and jr. members with the capacity that I have- while doing signature campaigns.

Well yes it is indeed very unethical and I don't want to engage in such trade. Kudos to you guys who commented about merit trading since I'm not really aware about it.

Can merit points be exchanged legally or properly? like... reading each others' posts and add merit points to the posts "if and only if"
we personally find something interesting, sensible/knowledgeable and helpful?.

If this is in limits, like giving 1-2 points for quality points of each other it is fine. Do not keep repeating this as it will be unfair to other members.

Why so? Because you guys just want to rank up in a few days? Gone are the days where you could spam the forum with your vomitted half-English oneliners and get ranked up. Start making quality contribution to the forum and engage the people here. Otherwise forget about ranking up.

All you people are interested in is signature campaign spamming. While being inconsiderate towards to garbage in this forum. Being fair about merit means to give merit who "deserve" it and not like being a charity.

I guess you are taking his suggestion in wrong way. He suggested that if there are two members making quality posts, they can merit each others post. It does not mean they are involved or are trying to game the merit system.

That is also known as merit trading. This is especially dangerous for members who have a lot of posts. Somewhere in there, even if the poster is average, there will be posts that deserve merit. If you find someone who will merit your post(s), only if you merit their, then both of you deserve negative ratings.

Though I am not doing any of this actions actually and will not do it in the future... since a lot of them said that it is known as merit trading.

The Senior, Full, Hero and Legendary members already suggested not to do so, with that... and because of further reading about this matter...
I guess it's better to just-not do whatever I have suggested in this post because Merit is so strict, and I don't want to loose my account nor gain negative trust.

Well as for me...I'm not trying to do that and thanks for your suggestions. Please don't stereotype people. Your comments contains great content and will be acknowledged better if you'll calm down just a bit. I hope you're really trying to help people like us in this forum instead of saying false judgements.

Yes, we are not knowledgeable enough and is progressing slow that's why I'm looking for legal ways in order to progress. And by doing this post I got to learn that whatever it is that I am thinking is not legal and will cause my account to have negative trust or to be reported. Lesson learned and thanks...
