We are wondering why crypto markets are going down but the stock market is also falling. S&P 500 and Dow Jones have been falling recently and had yesterday a significant drop.

Many of us thought that when a financial crisis came, people would put their money in cryptos but money is getting out of the stock market and the crypto market. People are getting liquidity and buying metals to some extent.

Do you thing we can have a major financial crisis where stocks lose most of their value and that also happen to cryptos?

No ones knows on what actually happen on both world in crypto and on stocks but we do really see on how money is taking out on both fields. If this trend would continue in both worlds then there would really be a major financial crisis not only basing on some stocks but majority of it would really go to bearish. I'm sure panic is everywhere and can be seen on both markets.

This is a strange occurrence, how about oil and gold price? Whether its price fall too? If the money is moved then there is something that becomes very expensive. No one know who made this crisis, if anyone like that, surely he has experienced in making crisis. Require big capital to make a crisis.

It's possible in automated programs, when they fall, they start selling urgently, when such programs create a lot of panic sales.

Another option is that the new chapter is headed by Jerome Hayden Powell and his plan for a gradual increase in the interest rate: "We expect that inflation in annual terms will grow this year and stabilize around the 2% FOMC target in the medium term".

We should understand that this market move in cycles and there is an accumulated time and distribution time and that is what we called corrections. Cash are flowing from stock market and cryptocurrency markets and we expect another fund flow to cryptocurrencies markets and stock any moment from now.

As for crypto markets they seem to have been holding their own over the back end of february
after a mass exodus in january.

According to this report in coindesk the two big climbers are bitcoin and litecoin with a few other
alts making gains also.

Stock market and crypto market are not inversely related to think when one falls the other begin to rise because doing that would mean that there are only two investment opportunities available in the entire world and when people move from one they move to another. The fact is while some of the people operating in the stock market might also be operating in the crypto market, I know for sure that majority of the operators of the crypto market don't have any business with the stock market including myself because of the basic entry requirement to operate in that market.

Since the operators are significantly different, it means their relationship cannot be established. What we are seeing as the down side of both is that people are looking at more stable third, fourth, fifth and several options available to turn out money for themselves with minimal risk. In this period on downturn, we have seen government issued bonds being over subscribed, we have equally seen massive investment in the real estate, more technological breakthrough etc.

Litecoin makes an impressive move for the month of February but it isn't enough to keep the crypto market shine again I guess because of some ICO's adapting the use of litecoin like bitpanda, bitpay and paybear. Before the bear market at the start of January the market cap was at $700 billion right now it still sits at $400 billion. Give it a time I guess, the market is still recovering or somewhat have stabled.

One market can affect another market as the influence of it can make other investors pull out there money. For example Dow Jones can also affect global stock markets as the investors in Dow Jones are also fireign investors in other stock market. A worldwide correction of different markets is possible because one person can also trade in many kinds of market where he can also decide to pulliut all his assets in all of the markets where he invested in.

Care to show statistics on how big is the funds that were pullled out of this two market?  We cannot say something without proof right?  Though if it is true, probably people are into taking profit.  Exit is always been a practiced in trading but rest assured that they are already looking for another entry point.  It is a cycle and that's what keeps the market active and alive for all this years.

Thanks for noticing it, that really makes a difference and means that crypto market might not be as screwed as we thought it was. Nevertheless, coin fell down a couple of months ago, whereas stock market is experiencing drops since yesterday. Moreover, I suppose you are talking only about USA, while it is not a state that can make a difference in cryptocurrency market imo.

I think the thread is about the recent news on USA stock market: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/get-there/wp/2018/03/01/dow-drops-500-points-on-news-of-trumps-steel-tariffs/?utm_term=.335ca1309b85. I think it's a temporarily change and it doesn't reflect the whole market, but it does mean something.

In this period on downturn, we have seen government issued bonds being over subscribed, we have equally seen massive investment in the real estate, more technological breakthrough etc.

I did wonder if the last crash in the crypto markets was somewhat brought about by the simultaneous crashing of stock markets in Europe, North America and Asia (even in the Southeast), and it would seem their collective recoveries over the past two weeks are also happening in tandem with Bitcoin's renewed recovery. As you said, there are more players now from traditional markets also dipping into crypto. Last year we already witnessed several major PE and hedge funds include at least Bitcoin into their portfolios, but these were simply part of their diversification strategy - not switching over. So the nett effect should actually be to swell crypto - a small inverse relation.

i disagree.
this is just a coincidence unless proven otherwise. and people don't just "think" when a financial crisis comes, people would put their money in bitcoin. instead they all saw that this happened multiple times. for example there has been times when other markets have been having drops and that meant bitcoin rising even more.

so unless you can bring at least two dozen cases of the same thing happening as the following, i am going to stick with "this is a coincidence" theory that two markets just overlapped and it is bound to happen at some point!

the stock market is also falling. S&P 500 and Dow Jones have been falling recently and had yesterday a significant drop.

You mean a crypto financial crisis,, not at this time for sure because it’s increasing and with 11000$ at this point is in a good standing.. As most member said it was just a coincidence that appears to be no significant relationship on each other,, when stock market drop it only show the low confidence of the investors yet the bitcoin price drop are mere speculative perceptions..

Do you thing we can have a major financial crisis where stocks lose most of their value and that also happen to cryptos?

It all depends on who the big players are. If they are traditional investment managers and hedge funds, then they might sell stocks and cryptos at the same time. Especially if they are seeing outflows from their funds (which means they HAVE to sell to give investors their money back).

Retail investors tend to be hodlers though, so bitcoin's future really depends on a lot of ordinary people investing in bitcoin.

Litecoin and Bitcoin has been the best so far. Litecoin picked up recently and started upping its game. But even if there’s financial crisis, I think it will only affect the poor and not the rich.
