Well it at some time like that but not to everyone because one need to be extraordinary careful when it come to investment. Ad i usually advise some of my friends about investment in crypto currency that they should only invest what they can afford to lose in some case's because investing all your life savings in a single investment opportunities maybe dangerous if the market move against you.

All that you have to do right now is to hold.
Don't bother with checking the price every few minutes, even days. Just relax and wait for better times.
There was a spike and big drop right after, it happened many times before so I think it is absolutely possible for it to happen once more.
Don't panic and take it as a lesson for the future. I'm sure there are plenty of people like you, that's why we see this huge "sale"  

The problem of holding for the long term for people like the op is that they probably had no plans to do so, they planed to buy a coins and the coins will go up immediately or at worst he will have some small losses but with the current drop in the market the people that bought at the all time high will have to hold for months and maybe years before they get their money back.

You should not have such a thinking. The entire market is unpredictable, just think about the time when it reached close to $20000. Everything happened all of a sudden, in this regard having patience is important and good will happen anytime. Lets hope this happens soon as market has started to recover even when the stock markets were downtrend.

You should not have such a thinking. The entire market is unpredictable, just think about the time when it reached close to $20000. Everything happened all of a sudden, in this regard having patience is important and good will happen anytime. Lets hope this happens soon as market has started to recover even when the stock markets were downtrend.

Unpredicatble? Yes. But that doesn't mean the price will be back at 20K or even close in the coming months. Almost zero chance. I mean, we had a 70% crash, usually (historically) such things are followed by a major bear market, or a sideways movement, which would be the most optimistic scenario. Yes, this is crypto, but wake up and smell the coffee, guys, the bull market is OVER. Not trying to FUD, as I also bought a couple of coins near ATHs, and my plan for the nearest future is to just hodl.

Don't worry ok, it's just a few months left and you won't ever know btc was at that price. I remember around July last year btc was around 2800$ and it was said the all time when I bought some few to add my btc. Some days later, it went to 1800$. Do you see the scenario? I never lost hope but now do you think even the number hater of bitcoin thinks btc will ever go below 3000$? NO.
A time is coming when btc for 22000$ will be expected but will never be there, it'd be higher than that. Keep hodling and never sell.

Regardless of what coin you bought. there is only one thing you could do right now and it is to hold that coin until it reaches an all-new ATH. You just had a wrong timing on investing in that coin probably because a lot of people who also bought that coin at a lower price saw a good chance and started selling their fair share of it that resulted in a dip. Just wait for its price to recover and don't panic because it will only lead to more losses.
