What are addnodes?

What are the purpose and definition of addnodes?

Are you sharing your block rewards by adding them?

Are you in fact giving them access to your client?

and when you do add these nodes are you suppose to fwd that port in your router to the ip of the computer running the client?

I believe it helps you connect to more peers in the network although i might be wrong.
