they can do both jobs, more often the usage of the two is dependent on users comfort zones, USB flash drives often used for linux type of OS while HDD more often in windows, it is significant for a miner to get what OS is most familiar with him for stability of the rigs.

Flash drives are tricky  some  are poor quality.

Some are good.

I prefer  usb sticks  for my smos.

I prefer  small ssds for windows.

Here are some sticks that work for smos/linux

and these are nice  but I just started using these

it depends on the quality and Sizes the HDD and Flash Drive if looking at the ways of working, Flash Drive faster than HDD but for OS Windows more stable using HDD.
at the Point, both can be used it depending on the person using whether convenient in HDD or FDD.

lol that's incorrect, flash drives are NOT faster than a ssd. dunno who told you that but they are wrong. what these people also fail to tell people about flash drives is they were never ment for a lot of read/writes like an an ssd is, failure rate is much higher as your beating up that pen drive doing something it was never ment to do

Same here.  I'm using 32GB USB drives for smos rigs and 120GB SSDs for Windows rigs.  I'd definitely recommend SSDs over HDDs for Windows systems.  The time saved in reboots alone is worth it imo.

If you got a spare SSD then use that but don't go buying a bunch for your GPU rigs since they are not needed.

Most of us got some spare 250Gb SATA hard drive somewhere and those are more than adequate.

Flash drives are bad because they easily get corrupt and you need to reflash them.
