I am a new member. I came to bitcointalk because someone referred me here. As I have been reading posts and commenting. I have noticed a general attitude especially by the more senior members of the community. There is a lot of hostility going on and I don't know why. You are leaders of the community and that means you should guide newbies gently. Allow them time to grow, and most importantly, allow them to be the babies that they are, to make mistakes and learn from them.

You were once newbies also, you also made mistakes and you probably still do. Why are you being so harsh, there is a lot of information to learn on this platform and it's hard to know everything in the first month. Yes, there are a lot of stupid people who have bad intentions or whose motives are misplaced. But please don't paint everyone with the same color. Some people are lazy by nature, they will ask questions instead of doing research, but be kind to them and educate them in a gentle way.

I see people being labeled bad because they joined a sig campaign or because they are motivated by money. Why not educate the people how to go about their business on this platform and please do it gently. I know a lot of you will hate me for this post but why?

If you are a senior member and you agree with me, show your support. We need to eliminate hostility, spamming, hate, plagiarism, meanness and all the bad from this platform. We are a community of people from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds. We need to tolerate one another and live in harmony, peace, and abundance.

I HATE TABLES I HATE TABLES I HA(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ TABLES I HATE TABLES I HATE TABLES

That would be quite difficult, just look at the LoL and dota 2 communities.

The hostility comes from the frustrations of being swamped by an influx of economic migrants who don't contribute, but just demand the right to "free" money. We have the same problem in Britain, it led to Brexit, and the current unrest comes from the unwillingness of governing bodies to address the core issues. I hope that Bitcoin Talk will learn from the experience of the collapsing EU as a result of ignoring the signals.

You are right, attitude towards newbies are negative here. But there are many reasons why. Newbies asking same general questions which was already asked million times. These users should put only minimal effort to find the answer, it's not that hard. For that purpose we have sticked topics with general information that they need to know. If they didn't found answer, it's nothing wrong to ask here. And more experienced members are getting tired to see and answer same questions. You are saying that some people are lazy by nature, but it's their own problem.
But I'm seeing harsh attitude towards newbies not only here on Bitcointalk, but pretty much everywhere where we can find discussions about crypto. Newbies asking same questions like "How to buy BTC with USD", "Which exchange, wallet to use", "how long verification takes" and etc.

It's fine if newbies ask same questions over and over again. What I think is that more senior members can either ignore them and don't answer. This way they have to dig up themselves. If they continue the same question over and over again opening a thread for it, they can be reported to moderator. But what I think is there is no need to show any hostility towards anyone even if it's new member. Remember even the seniors were new at some point. The members are senior here not only because they've got a account here before anyone else but for they possess some good skills which they can utilise in helping others instead of showing hostility towards anyone.

Some people are decent, some are asshats, some are helpful, some are just plain rude. I personally haven't come across anyone like this on this forum, in fact i have only found people to be helpful.

My advice, just ignore them and if you feel the need, block them.

With the current technological advances and education people should put some time to find/dig answers to their questions. In almost all web-pages there is a search button. That is there to USE! I have made the habit to search several times on a website, if that does not work Google and some how try to find the solution. If all that fails then I post my question on a forum to get an answers.
I think some people are just too lazy to search the answer on the Internet. Anyways anyone is welcome to private message me if they don't have the time or does not know how to get an answer to their problem. I will do my best to help out. In real world I am a high school teacher, so I know how it feels to be asked the same question over and over and over ...again. Smiley Smiley Smiley

i'd rather agree with your thought. i think it's normal for newbie because we newbie need some times to understand well how to communicate here. i really hate some users who act like a boss and bullying newbies just for asking. they don't need to do that because if they don't like it somehow, they can report that to moderator, right?
i really really hope we newbies can give (-) to users like that. we newbies is trying hard to learn here so please don't make it harder, don't make us give up to learn here. both spammer and bad user who bullied newbies should get some punishment for their bad attitudes. those people who act like a boss, like a master and bullying the newbies are worst, equal to the spammer.  Angry

We're only gentle to virgins (personally, I wouldn't be so gentle, because I am a lowlife beggar with no empathy for anybody else, as long as I can satisfy my own needs, I don't care what happens to you, please be a runaway orphan girl). a man has got to eat right? so that man has to get roughed up in life, otherwise he'd end up like me (29 years old pathetic virgin living with his parents, begging for money and now for merits, a total loser admittedly).

This is me being gentle and helpful, a warning to all the beggars, spell checking of forum is disabled, use your browser's spell checking feature, it wont underline your mistakes by a red line though, not that matters to me, I just need to achieve my goals ASAP. a.k.a OK I'll not repeat my goals, sorry theymos, please don't take away my 5 source merits, I have nothing else other than being a source merit to abuse my power and get in to the don DarkStar_leone's big and constructive family of posters or get banned trying. lol in *prostitute of 3.

*I meant magnitude, but because of the spell check of the forum I made a mistake, now you all know that I'm a shitposter incarnated.

Disclaimer: don't you feel sorry for me? everybody is out there with their girlfriends and families (not to gang bang though) having a nice weekend, I'm here as the most active shitposter, or maybe people are in shock after finding out that I'm a merit source.

Note, have you noticed that I'm not begging much any more? it's a temporary set back, first I need to make long posts such as this one, when theymos is viewing my posts, he doesn't have the time really to read my posts, as long as they are long, I will get back to shitposting after securing my future.

Note 2, I really need to quit smoking, I know, this could be the last post of mine while on drugs, stay tuned for me begging for money to go to rehab.

It's not against the rules to ask questions which was already asked and answered. So, there would be no point to report such threads. Yes, we can ignore such questions, but many people still answering - some are just posting for their signature campaign. Others are showing hostility, but still, usually they give correct answer Smiley

i really really hope we newbies can give (-) to users like that. we newbies is trying hard to learn here so please don't make it harder, don't make us give up to learn here. both spammer and bad user who bullied newbies should get some punishment for their bad attitudes. those people who act like a boss, like a master and bullying the newbies are worst, equal to the spammer.  Angry
Newbies also can leave negative feedbacks. But only feedbacks left by DT members affect user trust score. Basically, feedbacks left by you and me have same "power".
Personally, I also don't like users who acting like a boss just because that they have high rank. But my point is that should a bit more effort before asking questions. If you know how to use Google, I'm sure you can find answers to some basic questions which we are seeing on bitcointalk daily.
Personally, I've learned almost everything that I know about bitcoin myself without asking many questions. You just need to read, read and read. And repeat it daily.

This kind of behaviour is not limited to Bitcointalk.org forum and believe me, I grew up with Bulletin boards and forums from a very early age. People think they can react differently towards other people, when they are not face to face with these people.

The anonymity of a platform like this, allow for people to be rude more often than with forums where people's real identity is linked to their forum user.

This kind of interaction has it's advantages and disadvantages. A advantage of this, is for people <No matter what age, religion or race to interact on the same level>

It does not matter, if you are Black or White or Male or Female or 10 years old, you can still participate in the discussions about Bitcoin.

The forum have some general rules to protect people, but they cannot stop people from being rude. These people will dig a grave for themselves, when they act in this manner. < People will just "ignore" them in the future >

My advice to the newbies out there will be to highlight these instances. <tell them, when they are rude> and to use their ignore/Report to Moderator button, if this continues. <It is your choice>

Good luck, this is the Wild West and you might get into some Bar fights, while you are in town. Your choice will be to walk away or to fight or to call the Sherriff/Moderator.  ^smile^

This kind of behavior is not only happened here on BCT forum, but everywhere in the world. When somebody feels his knowledge, wealth or experience more than others, there's this tendency to be harsh or trolling towards others who he thinks have lower capacity than his, whether it's rank, knowledge, wealth or experience as I said earlier.

But I think there's still some decency here specifically in this forum, that some people do want to help or share their knowledge. I agree when newbies ask questions that already been answered over and over again is quite annoying and tend to be ignored, because it's shows that those people came here only for quick "free" lesson, they don't want to do their research or click more pages to read. Meanwhile those senior members have been here for years helping this forum to alive and updated.

If you want to know some basic knowledge, make sure you did your own research at least and gather as much as information you need before you ask. Google can be your best friend and there's search feature as well here. And never ask for something like "what's the best coin to mine now?" or "what's the most profitable coin of this algo?" this shows that the person is lazy to do his research while all the information is already there and wants "free" information, I would personally ignored this type of question.

Other than that, just ignore the trolls and bully, don't let them makes you feel bad. Just keep doing what you want to do here and keep positive. There's still good people here.

I know a lot of you will hate me for this post but why?

You're unlikely to become a target because you can actually communicate well, and you seem to read enough to know what's going on. Most of the hate I see is directed towards spammers that want nothing but to pad their post counts to join signature campaigns. That mess led to the introduction of merit, toning down a lot of negativity regarding Default Trust users, but opening a new can of worms in merit abuse, etc.

I do agree that everyone should be treated with at least a little bit of respect though. Hurling insults is just about as helpful as the spam that spammers post in my opinion. Using the Ignore feature is a lot easier and a lot less negative. That being said, this goes both ways as I also see personal attacks as retaliation to red trust, etc., in which case you can't really fault the senior member for losing their top. The best way to tackle this is probably to just help who you can and try not to get too involved in personal attacks.

world is a jungle and many people think that here is all peace and love
markets are jungles and you have to learn that there's a lot of scammers that promise you will be rich tomorrow

it isn't so

you have to go on your way and learn a lot

and in order to be strong you have to be indipendent and capable to think and manage thing alone

stay strong and listen to veterans, it is the only way, people is hars because they have been scammed, everyone of us, and as community we want to prevent you to be scammed too.

It's good to know that there are people in this forum who are good leaders. People who will not abuse their power and most of all people who are open minded. If only there were more of this kind of breed, things will be a whole lot nicer here.

markets are jungles and you have to learn that there's a lot of scammers that promise you will be rich tomorrow

it isn't so

you have to go on your way and learn a lot

and in order to be strong you have to be indipendent and capable to think and manage thing alone

stay strong and listen to veterans, it is the only way, people is hars because they have been scammed, everyone of us, and as community we want to prevent you to be scammed too.

best wishes

True, we need to be strong and remain positive at all times, but this is not a license to be mean to others just for the sake of it. Anyways, I get a general idea. People will always be who they are, to live a longer life, one needs to avoid the bad apples of this society. I will try my best not be a nuisance to anyone. I will help those that genuinely need help and I will go about my business on BCT while helping the community to grow. I will speak out against blatant abuse and I will help to keep spam to a minimum.

Good luck with your ideal 'system' (forum) and verbal abuse/hostility. I've seen some boards that have some pretty strict rules/regulations with no swear words allowed. People on the platform pretty much get along with no major arguments as the moderators will shut them down.

But regulation does not apply with BTC as it is exactly the opposite. This board in general runs that way as well, of course they want to eliminate spam, but freedom of speech is most likely at the top of the list. When you have a lot of testosterone floating around with no regulation = rude/harsh and condescending replies.  It is not with everyone, so don't think that every legendary poster is like that...
