Decentralized vs. Centralized

⚫ What is Decentralized Exchange?

A decentralized exchange is an exchange market that does not rely on third party service to hold customer’s funds. Decentralized exchanges also do not store any coins or private keys on central servers. Thus, hackers have to work significantly harder to track down these assets and the passwords which protect them. Trades here occur directly between users (peer to peer) through an automated process. Participants of a decentralized network have the power over their funds instead of a central authority. The promise of trustless decentralized exchanges is taking the middleman out of the picture altogether thanks to automation. Multi-signature escrow measures and proxy tokens are but a few of the ways such trustless is achieved.

Pros:
•   User control their own funds
•   Anonymous
•   No hack for central server
•   No risk of server downtime
•   No personal documents to apply or register

Cons:
•   Not easy to use (not for beginners but you can explore)
•   Basic exchange features of currency for a predetermined value
•   Low Liquidity
•   Some exchanges require users to be online in order for an order to be listed and for the trade to take place.

⚫ What is Centralized Exchange?

A centralized exchange is a website that handles the trading of bitcoin to fiat or other cryptocurrencies. An exchange's purpose is to allow you to trade BTC for fiat currency and to other cryptocurrencies (like litecoin, eth, etc, ripple, xmr). Intermediaries such as companies act as middle men in order to facilitate trading on their platform. In exchange for providing this service, intermediaries collect trading fees. In essence, centralized exchanges often act as the first point of contact for newcomers that are interested in trading cryptocurrency. Many individuals seek to have an interface that can connect them to both cryptocurrency trading and the real economy, and centralized exchanges provide that.

It promises a service that is free, secure and has easy integration with other kinds of coins. The company claims that with the use of BarterDEX companies can avoid the worst problems caused by centralized exchanges, like hacking and thefts. These problems can make companies lose millions of dollars and are very dangerous to them. Other problems that could be avoided with the use of BarterDEX are avoiding vanishing from listings, which can make the coins lose a lot of their value and regulations, which can help the companies when they have to deal with the law.
Barterdex’s Introduction ⬇️

Bisq
➡️ Bisq goes all-in when it comes to branding itself as being privacy-orientated. Bisq is for those who do not want to forfeit control or privacy to a central authority in order to trade with other individuals. We regard financial transactions as a form of private speech that should be protected from surveillance by banks, governments, and other institutions. Traders will like what they see with Bisq. Whether this DEX is more of the same or offers a fresh experience will be for you to decide.

✔️ A fast and fluid trading platform
✔️ Flexible withdrawal permissions
✔️ Network growth through adoption rewards
✔️ Regulation-compatible cryptoasset issuance

Changelly
➡️ Changelly’s automated system is interesting, in that it aggregrates the prices of digital assets from different exchanges and then lists the average as the going rate for traders on the platform. Their fee model is straigthforward: they charge a flat-fee rate of 0.5 percent on every trade they facilitate. This fee remains the same across all the cryptocurrencies Changelly has liquidity for. Even cooler, Changelly has merchant APIs that lets websites facilitate crypto trades through an easy to use widget.
Changelly’s Introduction ⬇️
✔️ Transfer from one wallet to another within seconds. It's that simple.
✔️ Exchange cryptocurrency at the best rate
✔️ Other cryptocurrency trading services charge you with withdrawal fees and commissions. We have a reasonable fee of 0.5%.
✔️ Enter the amount and the address. Transfer your coins and let the magic happen.
✔️ Changelly is presented to you by MinerGate. We are a team with one of the longest track records on crypto market.

CounterParty
➡️ The Counterparty DEX works with the Bitcoin blockchain to facilitate decentralized, P2P trading of cryptocurrencies.  Counterparty itself is billed as a “financial platform,” and the platform’s DEX is a natural extension of its mission to create an ecosystem of P2P applications atop bitcoin. The Counterparty ecosystem allows for the creation of new digital assets, and these novel assets can be traded freely upon the Counterparty DEX. If you hear others talk about “tokenization,” it’s platform’s like Counterparty’s decentralized exchange that will help turn this trend into a social zeitgeist.

✔️ The technology that allows Counterparty nodes to communicate with each other via the Bitcoin blockchain.
✔️ Create your own digital tokens in a matter of seconds, which can represent anything and are easily exchanged peer-to-peer.
✔️ The native currency of Counterparty, used for advanced features and representing stake in the protocol.
✔️ Counterparty smart contracts are Bitcoin aware and can also interact directly with Counterparty tokens.

CryptoBridge
➡️ CryptoBridge has a really unique dynamic as far as DEXs go. That’s because BridgeCoin owners are incentivized by being rewarded in a whopping cut of the Cryptobridge exchange’s trading fees. And security is sound with CryptoBridge, as traders remain in control of their private keys at all times. At no point during any phase of use do CryptoBridge employees have access to your money.
CryptoBridge’s Introduction ⬇️
✔️ The main innovation is elimination of a single point of failure when trading cryptocurrencies.
✔️ There is no central point of failure. All deposits, withdrawals and all order books are transparently stored on the blockchain.
✔️ Each client holds the private keys to their coins. CryptoBridge has no access to the client's funds.[ /font]
✔️ offers a complete API for any interested party to build applications on top of the decentralized exchange.

EtherDelta
➡️ *Word of caution: EtherDelta was recently acutely compromised, so just be sure to triple check social media out of habit going forward before transacting through the DEX.
EtherDelta has its place, as some users flock there to get Ethereum-based ERC20 tokens that haven’t been listed elsewhere yet. For instance, in recent weeks EtherDelta has had new tokens trading on the exchange immediately post-ICO, helping to establish the very first markets for said tokens.

Etherdelta’s Introduction ⬇️
✔️ EtherDelta is a decentralized trading platform that lets you trade Ether and Ethereum-based tokens directly with other users.
✔️ You are responsible for your own account, funds, and private keys. You are responsible for your own trading decisions, and the details and mechanics of the tokens you trade.[ /font]
✔️ EtherDelta does not hold your funds and does not offer refunds
✔️ While the information contained on EtherDelta is periodically updated, no guarantee is given that the information provided on EtherDelta is correct, complete, or up-to-date.

IDEX
➡️ is focused exclusively on the P2P trading of ERC20 tokens. You have to deposit coins on the exchange as well, which is also like EtherDelta but unlike other DEX services like Changelly and Shapeshift. In this sense, IDEX looks and feels like a traditional exchange.
IDEX’s Introduction ⬇️
✔️ The first Ethereum based decentralized smart contract exchange to support real-time trading and high transaction throughput.
✔️ The most advanced Ethereum DEX, supporting limit and market orders, gas-free cancels, and the ability to fill many trades at once.

✔️ IDEX charges 0.2% for the market taker and 0.1% for the market maker. Users also pay gas fees to put their transactions on blockchain
✔️ All transactions on the Ethereum network cost gas, a fee that is paid to miners in order to process the transaction.

✔️ Franchise Partnership. integration of our trading platform into your website

Oasis
➡️ You can only interface with the Oasis DEX through a MetaMask extension account, or through using python, solidity, or web3, so you won’t just be able to pop on and start trading. Some legwork is required.
The project explains itself as a “a liquidity pool on the Ethereum blockchain. [Oasis’ native] Simple Market and Matching Market smart contracts provide for the trustless atomic exchange of ERC20 tokens without third party counter-risk.
The Oasis DEX joins a growing trend on exchanges that are catering specifically to facilitating trades between Ethereum-based ERC20 tokens.

Oasis Introduction ⬇️
✔️ Oasis is a simple on-chain market for all token assets in the Maker registry; MKR, DAI, ETH and more to follow.
✔️ It aims to handle the backbone of trade and exchange by focusing on being good for large orders, which needs stuff like custom logic and high security, but it can also work as a regular exchange if it has a good GUI that handles the order search and does a human-friendly display of the markets.
✔️ The "Simple Market" implementation doesn't have a matching engine, but someone could of course write a layer on top of it that provides such an engine.
✔️ You'll need to run an Ethereum client, such as Mist, MetaMask or Parity Browser.

Openledger
➡️ OpenLedger, found online at OpenLedger.info, is primarily a cryptocurrency trading platform. However, the platform also includes an advertising technology called HubDSP, tokens called OBITS, and a crowdfunding system called ICOO. Together, these services are known as the ecosystems of OpenLedger DC.
At its core, however, OpenLedger is a trading platform that lets traders of all levels access cryptocurrency markets. That trading platform is called OpenLedger DEX. OpenLedger is more than just an exchange. It’s a collection of ecosystems. OpenLedger visualizes their ecosystems as like a collection of solar systems in a galaxy (seriously, that’s the visual they use on their official website). OpenLedger DEX – the cryptocurrency exchange – lies at the center of the galaxy. The other OpenLedger ecosystems – like OBITS and ICOO revolve around the platform.
The entire ecosystem is based on the BitShares platform and is powered by Graphene. Overall, OpenLedger describes its collection of ecosystems as “OpenLedger DC”. The DC stands for Decentralized Conglomerate. It’s “the ecosystem of ecosystems”

Token Store
➡️ Token Store is a decentralized exchange that offers trading in mostly ERC-20 tokens against Ethereum. Fiat currencies are not supported on this exchange and it does not provide any leveraged trading. Its developers admit Token Store is built on smart contracts in a very similar way to EtherDelta with some minor additions.
Token Store offers many Etheereum (ERC-20) tokens for trade, as well as Tether USD and Tether EUR (cryptocurrencies, backed by US dollars, and Euros, respectively). Its list of supported altcoins currently features more than 15 tokens, including OmiseGo, Tether USD, Tether EUR, SALT, Tron, Verify, BountyOx and more. The most heavily traded ones at the time of writing of this review are CRED/ETH, and BNTY/ETH.

Waves
➡️ The Waves DEX gives you the advantages of a centralized exchange with none of the risks; that’s because “order matching is done in a centralized manner … in layman’s terms — there’s a server which matches incoming orders, but has no access to your funds.” This way in using the Waves exchange, you can have your cake and eat it too: the security and privacy provided by decentralization imbued with the rapidity provided by a centralized server.

➡️  Bitfinex is a cryptocurrency exchange, which also provides margin trading. The leverage ratio may seem low to experienced forex traders, but this is due to wild and unpredictable nature of cryptocurrencies. Bitfinex is operated by iFinex Inc., a Hong Kong based company. Although regulation in the cryptoverse is often times a bit shaky, this company has some history in dealing with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Despie claiming they should not fall under any dervatives regulation, Bitfinex did pay a fine to the CFTC regarding a particular case. Of course, we are talking about the famous hacking scandal. As of November 9 2017, Bitfinex will no longer accept US clients in any form. Kraken
➡️ This platform for professional altcoin traders has been in business since 2011 and claims to be the largest Bitcoin exchange.  Among other things, Kraken was the first Bitcoin exchange to have prices posted on the Bloomberg Terminal.
➡️ Kraken has some appealing features including easy-to-read screens, but it can be hard to use. We had a difficult time figuring out exactly which currencies it accepts for trading.
The focus at Kraken is pair trading of cryptocurrencies and the US Dollar. Margin trading and high-margin trading are available. Kraken would be best for high-volume traders and professionals that need to comply with U.S. financial regulations.
This exchange is audited and goes out of its way to comply with U.S. law. Individual traders would be best served by some of the more consumer-friendly exchanges.

Kraken’s Introduction ⬇️
✔️ Fast funding and low fees. Bitcoin dark pool
✔️ 24/7/365 support. Legally compliant
✔️ Ranked #1 security. Encrypted cold storage
✔️ Leveraged trading up to 5x. Shorting allowed
✔️ Stop-loss orders. Automate your strategy
✔️ Cryptographically verified. Pioneered the industry standard

Kucoin
➡️ KuCoin is a cryptocurrency exchange based in Hong Kong. It was launched on September 15, 2017 and it operates on a crypto-to-crypto basis, which means that no fiat currencies are supported. Nonetheless, its digital assets portfolio is pretty extensive and besides, the platform uses KuCoin Shares (KCS) in a similar way to Binance.
KuCoin does not offer margin trading and they aim to be a more user-friendly exchange than traditional exchanges available today. It’s important to note that they have not disclosed whether there is any minimum investment required. They also offer 24/7 customer service and they have also been known for posting coin pairs before they hit other major cryptocurrency exchanges.

Kucoin’s Introduction ⬇️
✔️ Top professional team, Million-level throughput of core trading engine
✔️ Powerful API interface, More than 100 popular block chain assets
✔️ Bank-level asset security, Financial system stability
✔️ Consultant team of financial experts, Efficient customer service

Livecoin
➡️ Livecoin is a cryptocurrency exchange that offers spot trading services for an extensive list of digital currencies for USD, EUR or RUB. On the alt-coin list are major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ether, Dash, Litecoin, Monero, as well as more obscure ones like Doge, Steem, various game coins as well as hundreds of others, like Putin Coin and Trump Coin. The selection of Livecoin is indeed rather impressive and makes it one of the few exchanges with such wide portfolio. There are a few others, like Bisq and Litebit, who have a larger selection, extending beyond the major cryptocurrencies.
Similarly to most cryptocurrency exchanges, Livecoin does not offer leveraged trading, but only spot trading. There are some major platforms like Kraken, CexIo, bitFlyer and Quoinex who do offer this type of trading. There are also a large number of forex brokers who have included CFDs on some of the major cryptocurrencies for speculative trading on margin, such as IG and HYCM. There are others, like Swissquote, who have teamed up with the exchange Bitstamp to offer bitcoin trading.

Livecoin’s Introduction ⬇️
✔️ We established a Trading platform for fast, efficient and easy trading in cryptocurrencies. We will keep you updated of the latest trends of cryptocurrency market.
✔️ To protect your wallet we use cold storage system. You may also restrict access to your account by using Google Authenticator system and a white list of IP addresses.
✔️ We cooperate with major payment processing systems and offer various payment options to our customers. Our fees start from 0%!
✔️ Join us and make money now! Attract more customers introducing our favorable terms and make a profit! We offer you to choose your reward plan for yourself.

Localbitcoins
➡️ LocalBitcoins is a global Bitcoin exchange that gives a lot of options to its users. LocalBitcoins itself does not impose any limits on its users. Users are free to decide on their own prices and limits. LocalBitcoins is available in nearly every country. Liquidity will depend on the amount of buyers and sellers in your area. LocalBitcoins is not available in Germany or the state of New York. LocalBitcoins left New York due to the BitLicense.
LocalBitcoin’s Introduction ⬇️
✔️ Trade process duration from the creation of the user account to having bitcoins in your wallet is a few minutes.
✔️ LocalBitcoins.com payment method supports wide range of world payment methods.
✔️ LocalBitcoins remembers your web browsers and verifies logins are coming from the same browser. If an unknown web browser is encountered, an email confirmation is required before the login can proceed.

Poloniex
➡️ Poloniex is a pure crypto to crypto exchange based in the United States. With a grand redesign in early 2015 the site has added a wealth of features to provide a fully immersive trading experience. Technical analysis charts and live chat mean it is easy to stay abreast of news flow and analyse price trends before taking a position.
For a crypto to crypto exchange there is good security and decent volume and orderbook depth for the majority of its trading pairs.
Trading fees are flat at 0.25% and deposit and withdrawal fees are subject to the blockchain's specific minimum transaction fee.

Poloniex’s Introduction ⬇️
✔️ The vast majority of customer deposits are stored offline in air-gapped cold storage. We only keep enough online to facilitate active trading, which greatly minimizes risk and exposure.
✔️ Our auditing programs monitor exchange activity 24/7/365. Their job is to report and block any suspicious activity before it becomes a problem.
✔️ Any funds you put into the exchange are only used to facilitate trading through your account. Unlike banks, we do not operate on fractional reserves.

Radar Relay
➡️ Radar Relay is new cryptocurrency software that will enable you to trade ERC20 tokens from your own home without having to go through services like online cryptocurrency exchanges. At the moment, you will be able to trade ERC20 tokens directly from your Web3 of Hardware wallet without the need of a middlemen company.
What Radar Relay creates is the possibility to send orders to the market. The company does not move your assets, you do that yourself via smart contracts. The only thing that the company does is to find other people whose order match yours to enable this transaction that will be made directly via you and the other investor. Radar Relay uses 0x Protocol to do this.

Radar Relay’s Introduction ⬇️
✔️ We relay orders between peers. The 0x Protocol moves tokens between wallets. Together, we’re a new kind of decentralized exchange where the platform itself is distributed.
✔️ Unlike other exchanges, we never hold custody of your tokens. Come maintenance or mishaps, tokens stay accessible in your wallet. No hidden escrow or exit strategies.
✔️ We can link other relayers to create networks of liquidity, not just isolated pools. This gives you increased access to tokens and less transferring to and from exchanges.

Nice thread mate. I am not into trading but I think your brilliant idea of posting something like this helps me a lot and to those who are new into this industry and planning to get into trading without doing further research about exchanges. I am a hodler of different kinds of tokens and coins and I know that time will come I need to trade them. That is why I need a thread like this wherein professional traders here in this forum would share their thoughts and experiences with the above mentioned centralized and decentalized exchanges which will help me decide which one to try one day.

You did a very good job with this presentation of cryptocurrency exchanges. Most of users know only for centralized exchanges, and I admit that I have never heard for some of decentralized exchanges that you are mentioning here.I think this will be good reading for every trader.

I see you list NiceHash in your list, but this is mining service(hacked some time ago)and I think such services should not be in the same category with exchanges.

Some exchanges you may add : Binance,Coinbase,LocalBitcoins,Blockchain.info,KuCoin.Additionally to those you mentioned, these 5 are most famous among users worldwide. There is also many others, some of them are less known, many are just local exchanges.

Nice list. You missed out Openledger, which is a decentralised exchange that is bui8lt on top of the bitshares platform:

https://openledger.io/welcome

It has quite a large number of alts listed as well, making it a decent competitor to livecoin or hitbtc.

Nice presentation for crypto exchanges, it shows that you took some tremendous effort to work with this. You forgot to add RADAR RELAY a decentralized exchange for ERC20 tokens, easy and convenient to use. Just some suggestions, can you add the upcoming and frauds exchanges from this list so that the readers and newbies are aware of this, your thread design can catch the attention of the newbies who are constantly asking the same questions about this topic, ignoring the existing threads about exchanges.

At last! someone actually made this kind of thread! great idea man. Thanks for this. I used to have urges to day trade but somehow, I am afraid to do so because I still do not know much about exchanges and what to use. I hope you would make a telegram group chat for this so that a lot can also help in contributing to the updates and that if someone has questions, he or she can freely ask there and have various people who have great experiences already that can help out in clarifying things to that particular person that needs help.

you really deserve a merit so I will be giving you one right now. Again man, thanks for this. It really made me save a lot of time searching through all the things that come out of the search engine and asking for other people's opinions. Hope you continue updating this thread.

~ Thanks mate, 0t3p0t! Well, i am not also an expert into trading but I decided to open this kind of topic for everyone to be educated about the differences of exchanges. Thank you for appreciating my work, i promise to give the very best that I can to update this thread and hopefully I am able to help others that are new to trading or want to know more other exchanges, etc. I am also open for suggestions and opinions for this thread so if you have any of those, just comment it here and I will update it on my list! ~ I will add these informations you've posted here for a wider explanation of the said exchanges. Thank you very much Carmen03, for having time to read my thread. I am also thinking to put a little review also about the exchanges, to emphasize the what kind of coins do they exchange and if do they have limits or what are the min and max fees, etc. Soon, i'll try to update it. I should immediately removed that from my list so that other people won't be directed to that mining service anymore. Thanks for adding more exchanges and absolutely yes! I will be glad to add them on my list as soon as possible. Thank you again. Smiley

Thanks a lot. This is a very interesting list of sites. This would be a very beneficial to those who would like to ask for a list of exchanges. Please update this more often so that we may know hows the site been going. For example in cases where the site was hacked and or not operating anymore. Thank you very much.

Nice thread man, I had not idea we had so many decentralized exchanges already. I used etherdelta from time to time, and I already new about IDEX and Bisq, although I haven't tried those last two yet. I heard bisq is planning on having fiat on their platform, which would be great, because right now, no DEX does that.

I also hear that binance is looking at the market and thinking about decentralized exchanges. Don't know if they will going to become completely decentralized, or if they will just create a test product or something like that, but they seem to be looking into it, and they said that they see DEX as being part do the future, so they are probably serious about this.

A brilliant thread, I am bookmarking it. Maybe you could add CoinExchange.Io, I noticed that one starting to appear as a trade site for many smaller coins.

You have great list of the decentralized exchanges there. Hope you keep it up on your list. I think decentralized exchanges are going to be the future of exchange for cryto currencies.
