Unplug GPUs when switching drivers?

Heyo!

How do you guys go about switching drivers?
Do you uninstall in safe mode using DDU?
Do you disconnect all GPUs apart from the x16 slot when installing new drivers?
Or do you just leave all of em in their slots?

Just tryna prepare my ass to save some time

I don’t even bother with safe mode anymore unless I’m having an issue. DDU to uninstall, and as long as windows is set to not automatically install drivers your fine. No need to unplug anything.

I agree with the first poster. I do not even go to safe mode. Just make sure windows does not automatically install drivers. And depending what cards you are using (AMD) you may have to run pixel patcher again to get windows device manager to notice the cards.

The reason you want to go in safe mode is safe mode loads the Microsoft basic VGA driver instead of the propiatary driver, which you are trying to remove. Trying to uninstall files while they're in use may leave files behind. There should be no need to remove the cards from the PCI-E slots unless you are troubleshooting problems installing the driver.

I'm running an ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ and adding 4 gpus to the already existingn 8 (all RX 580's 8GB) bios is currently not modded, will i still need the pixel patcher? I havn't used it before.

The whole reason why im switching drivers is because I need to run 17.11.4 drivers to get win 10 to recognize all cards in the first place, didnt think the pixel patcher was needed to achieve that aswell.

i deactivated win update in services.msc, i guess that should do the trick

Atikmdag patcher used to handle driver signature when you mod your cards, also to increase refresh rate and pixel clock, if you didn't mod your cards, you didn't need it. Windows 10 latest fall creator update 1709 would help you.

You could plug at least one card when installing the driver, or you can manually install/update your cards using Package folder.
