[2018-02-12] Bitcoin Private Fork Aiming to Make Bitcoin Anonymous

Bitcoin’s latest fork is just weeks away and this one’s a little different from the rest. Rather than simply tinkering with Segwit or adjusting block sizes, Bitcoin private (BTCP) is adding zk-Snarks. The privacy enhancing feature is best known for its use in the Z family of coins including zcash, zclassic, and zencash. That’s not surprising given that the fork is being instigated by Rhett Creighton, who is simultaneously forking bitcoin and zclassic on February 28 to create BTCP which will then be available to holders of both coins.

This may be the first meaningful fork of Bitcoin, although I don't like the fact it has Bitcoin in its name.

Edit: It looks like I was too happy too fast and this is no different from the other Bitcoin Whatever coins: attempts to lure newbies and get their money.

Apparently, it will be another real competitor to the original bitcoin, which in any case is very good, because there will be a healthy competition between bitcoins, which will make them improve. Bitcoin private can take a worthy place among the family of bitcoins, as increasing the confidentiality of bitcoin is very important now.

Wow we got more free coins, I was wondering if this year we would not have more free coins and boom, here is another opportunity to have free coins, although these free coins usually have ridiculous names and ridiculous phrase and many of them disappear days later ... I read their thread and it's unbelievable the happiness of many people, I suppose this happiness is because of the free coins

 BTCP is just a mere copy of bitcoin plus some features, but it's still a copy of bitcoin, why the hell all these copies of bitcoin have to be making comparisons with the original bitcoin?

I am for privacy and fungibility but if you are supporting this fork without knowing who the lead of its development team is, then you are blind.

Their lead developer is Rhett Creighton, who has forked Zcash to Zclassic and a supporter of Bitcoin Unlimited, another bitcoin fork. I reckon he has 2 more projects that were also forks.

I would also never trust a developer who thought that unlimited block sizes was a good idea.

No, i don't agree with you, this is just another one alt coin that in the end will not be more popular/useful than the rest of the currents alt coins, but i like it because this bring two things to the table:

1-more ideas that could be "implemented" on the real bitcoin in a future...
2-more free money for all

Bitcoin in privacy waters sounds good, but Bitcoin forks are not so easy to do properly.
I think it will be the same as before. Free money for holders and Bitcoin going the same road again.

All bitcoin forks are either scams or an effort to acquire money in some way. If you believe that they hard forked bitcoin because they have a vision and that they are passionate, then you are no better than the ICO fanatics.

Also, I reckon the development teams that forked bitcoin are made up of people who do not have enough technical skill and knowledge to develop and contribute in the original.

I know that most of them are exactly as you said. I somehow hoped that this will be different. I was wrong. I admitted it already, didn't I? Or was it not clear enough? Or you've just read only one of my posts and found a nice cannon fodder?

@NeuroticFish. I was agreeing with you, and I was also cementing the matter that they are really scams for all the newbie readers out there. Sorry if it came out preachy hehe.

By the way, the real moneymaker in this fork wasn't holding bitcoin, it was holding Zclassic! It is up 100x! It went from under $2 to over $150 in 2 months.
