Cryptocurrencies are inherently volatile. And while centralized stablecoins like Tether provide stability, they require trust of a third party to honor redemption. Because of this, there has been interest in creating decentralized stablecoins that are as trustless as Bitcoin.

Triton began as an ESports project. But during 2018, Triton’s team found itself involved in many of the ‘mint and burn’ stablecoin discussions surrounding Haven Protocol. While we recognized that Haven’s ‘mint and burn’ concept was a radical all-crypto improvement to centralized fiat-backed stablecoins, we felt the proposed implementation left too many opportunities for price manipulation failure.

Because of this – and our belief in the core value of the concept – we decided to attempt our own ‘mint and burn’ protocol at the end of 2018: a decentralized stablecoin we call SAO which will be pegged to the US dollar. In brief, you will always be able to destroy a market equivalent $1 US dollar value of Triton to mint a single SAO dollar and vice versa. Triton will rely on decentralized ‘service nodes’ – a multifunctional price-monitoring oracle of our own design for determining the mint and burn exchange rate. The first generation of service nodes are currently on public testnet. Once off testnet, these nodes will become a core component of the Triton blockchain and SAO will go live:
