The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

You might try writing to Mark Coker at Smashwords. I wrote to him about my Smashwords account and got a very nice personal response from him answering my question.

He may very well be amenable to considering adding bitcoin as a payment method as he seems to be ahead of the curve on other things.
