Wasted Merits

I have seen a lot of Merits that are wasted with bounty threads like those known managers here.
They gain merit just by posting that altcoin bounty?

I have tried to go to every section here (as much as my eye can handle) and I can see a lot of good poster. (does not include me I have bad English but I am trying without the help of google translate)

Now, I have seen a lot of merits given also in Meta section. I thought it was for good posts quality?

I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

Is bashing here and there somehow a good quality? This is bitcointalk, shouldn't it be for helping others get the knowledge about bitcoin and not power, DT or trust or ranks?

I know it is hard to see those who are in good quality of posting because of the broadness of the forum but please why the hell should sections like bounties should have it?

Merit is always going to be subjective. Those bounty merits won't last forever. Once the initial allocation is exhausted they probably won't be so generous anymore.

If you see good posts not receiving merit you can:

1) apply to become a merit source: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2823944.0
2) or submit your recommendations to one of the many merit reward threads where members are actively seeking out merit-worthy users.

You'll always have users distributing their merit to please other people. Specifically DefaultTrust, campaign managers and bounty managers. They think by giving them merit that they'll see them in a positive light and include them in their business or trust them.

It doesn't work. Something like excluding merit being given in certain sections could prevent this, but believe it or not there's some worthy discussions that go on in the announcement threads. Anyway, these people who are giving bounty managers, campaign managers and DefaultTrust are going to run out of merit sooner rather than later.

I would rather believe it if they have given it for the purpose of  letting tthe higher ranks decide which are good qualities.
More  sMerits for those who picks good qualities means a lot of low ranking could go to higher ranks  because of their quality posts.
But what if it was given to a bounty manager which doesnt care about merits.
It will be another waste.
Getting sMerits from Merits given is to circulate it not letting it rot in your profile.

There is no 100% efficient 100% accurate system. I've proposed the "vote up" system but with that system we'll just be striving away from he construct of a forum.

But the merit system has been in place for a little less than a month, give it some time. There are sure to be some minor changes and tweaks, and just trying to think of ideas to improve is fun for me.

Merit is a newly updated system in every account, in order to improve quality of posting and minimize inappropriate ideas. It is also control and holds the promotions or rank up of every member. Because, if a certain member don't have any merits, their chances to rank up is lesser. So, if a certain member wants to rank up, they must improve their quality of posting in order gain addotional merit.

I don't understand the point you are trying to make; are you saying that quality posts cannot be made in the Meta section? Many forum changing ideas have been formulated there.

Yes. Bashing here and there is a good quality when the situation calls for it. If you are unable to lay down the law, who will take your expectations seriously? Being able to stand up for principals and calling out blatant disregard for expectations or common sense is, in fact, a good quality.

You're probably looking at it wrong. It's more likely the case that the "cool powerful guy" does not care who merits them and gives no favors or allows no entry into any "powerpuff group" for doing so. So, at best this is flawed thinking on the part of the person sending the merit. People with competence naturally will garner more respect, merit and "power". If you can see any examples of people doing unsavory favors for merit then I'm all ears and would love to call it out with you.

This merit thing is very new so maybe you should be patient and the good people of this forum could take suggestions for such matters. We all want to get a better rank. We have to be patient.

I hope so.
But as I see it for now, there will be an unfair move that will happen here.
Low ranks will stay at that point or will take years to get a good ranking and high ranking playing the Merit to themselves, passing it to just them.
I am sorry if I am too pessimistic, I have just been in this forum and unlike other forums that I have been there seems to be like a political side here.

Maybe I just wasted too much time at Meta.
