Hey all. I am Bludstem.
I am a newbie to the crypto currency thing. I found out about them through a couple of Youtube channels that I pay attention to. I decided to give this a try.
Only problem that I seem to be having, is that my computer seems to be crap when it comes mining coins either through a pool or solo. At the moment I don't have the money to buy equipment to mine coins more efficiently. On my computer my graphics card (Geforce 7300 SE/7200 GS) does not support OpenCL or CUDA.
My processor (AMD Athlon 64 3200+) seems to work for BitCoin (between 64kh/s and 100kh/s), however after speaking to BitCoin veterans, I have found out that will not be enough to actually be worth mining. I attempted Elephant Coin overnight and had 0h/s the entire night with nothing running except my wallet and CGMiner Scrypt.
Any advice would be appreciated on which if any coins would be worth mining with my current setup until I could buy specialized equipment to both mine more efficiently and better coins.
Currently I do not have the money to buy even a Block Erupter.

Don't bother mining with your current hardware, you won't generate even close to the electricity cost of running it.

If I am going to have this computer on anyways, would running it in the background still gain some benefits? without something working with my current setup it seems that I may never be able to get going on this. I know that at the moment nothing that I can do will be efficient, however I need to find a way to earn something to buy better equipment. Also I have an Arduino, is there any way that I can set this up to mine until I can buy something better?

Assuming you pay for electricity, you won't be earning with any of those devices. Despite what you may thing, Bitcoin isn't a way to get rich quick.

If I am you, I will either save up for some decent hardware, or buy BTC instead of mining it.

I know its not a get rich fast thing. I just want to figure out a way to earn coins so that i can use them to buy the equipment i need to have better hashrates. so with a Block Erupter USB do i plug that into my USB port and the programs detect it automatically? if not how does that work?

I'm pretty sure block erupters aren't worth it anymore either. I'd suggest reading more before diving in.
I think the days of making money from small time mining are over.

I remember mining in early 2011, when I'd be earning 1 BTC/Wk mining at 250 MH/s... If only I knew that BTC was going to take off...

there are 10gh/s block erupter blocks You can have these immediately, but these cost too much with almost no chance to mine back the BTC you bought these with. Hard to recommend you something in current situation when it seems you desperately look for something to mine with as soon as possible

Hi everyone, I'm new here also. about a month ago i would have said maybe theres some time left for GPU's in Altcoins or Scrypt mining. I think that come to an end as well. Atleast for me. I might go 1 more month but after that its definitly better to just spend the electricity money i would be spending each month (or day) on buying some coins.
