I am the owner of the Monarch Motel in Cheboygan, MI.  Just wanted to let everyone know that I am now accepting BitCoins for rooms at the motel.  Rates will be based on the current average trade value on TradeHill.com (mainly because that is where my trading account is located).  Prices do include an 8% Tax (6% state tax, 2% local tax), which we pay in regular USD to keep everything legal with the local paper-based-money-peeps.  The trade value used is at the time of check-in OR at the time of pre-payment.

If you or your BitCoin using friends or family plan a trip to Northern Michigan in the future, please consider the Monarch Motel as your BitCoin-accepting lodging destination.

EDIT: Actually, scratch the tax.  We will eat that cost ourselves for any and all guests who pay for their stay with BitCoins.

We are a small, 12 room, family run motel, not some large corporation or chain motel.  We do what we must because we can, just like Aperture Labs. Smiley

Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

I really wish there were more people like you where I live. No one accepts Bitcoin here...

I will most assuredly keep you in mind if I'm in the area!

We need a map with all of the physical goods/services seller locations that accept bitcoin.  It would be nice to visualize what businesses near me accept it, if any.  Or make a point to stop by one if I'm on a road trip.

You're awesome. I'd use the f-word here for emphasis, but wouldn't want to risk insulting such an awesome being if you were averse to such language.

And props on the Portal reference too. Smiley
