I'm happy to announce BitHub, a hackerspace in Seattle that caters to bitcoin projects.
With thanks to startpad.org for providing this (they accept bitcoin) you can come and get a desk or more for a few days or longer.
And for the next 2 months starting Tuesday, GLBSE development headquarters is going to be there.
If you're on the West coast during this time then come on over, I'll look forward to seeing you there.
Nefario.

Hope to see you there.

Sadly this isn't happening, I didn't get there.
Long story, I'll blog about it later today with the details.

Is there a reason why you have to go to Seattle and not elsewhere nearer and maybe not as paranoid as US about the Chinese and MenWithTurbans? Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore could probably work.

Wow. Just finished reading your blog post. That was harsh and I'm sorry you had to go through that. The whole ordeal seems... well frankly... retarded. Maybe Vancouver, B.C. next time? Cheers, Kermee

lol at such bullshit. Did they ask permission before stealing all your data on your devices or was there no way to protest it? Did they force you to give up your passcodes for any encrypted/locked items or did they just ask you to unlock them and let them peruse through them?

I didn't have any information on my phone or ipad beyond a couple of numbers, a map and an address. All my encrypted stuff is in the cloud. They asked if they had any pin numbers or passcodes for the devices, they didn't ask permission to copy them. You're pretty much at their mercy when coming in as a non-American. It's up to them whether to let you in or not, and getting "uppity" with them is not going to get them to let you in.

Fix'd. American's get fucked over on a day to day basis also. Talk bad about the TSA and they catch wind? Enjoy your entry on the exclusive no fly list.

Welcome to America, land of the fee and home of the slave.
I'm sorry to hear about your experience, but not terribly surprised. It's just another day at the office for our benevolent overlords.

Yeah, definitely don't mention something like Bitcoin. Carrying gold is hard enough. I think you're lucky they didn't detain you until you gave over your coins. Customs had seen some intention to take something over the border without declaring it.
They just want to know you can support yourself and you haven't sold everything to get here. It's similar for many other countries. South Americans really don't like the way they're treated this way because it's specifically The Man countries, if you catch my drift; wherever the new world order has gotten it's fingers into, never the places at war with.
I try to avoid America for passing though, it's the worst. Not as bad as I heard but definitely worth avoiding.
Thanks for the warning. I will continue to crap my pants at borders for no reason :-)

On a bright note, Koss, the guy who runs startpad.org was very kind, refunded me my bitcoin that I had prepaid, cool guy. If anyone is anywhere near Seattle I'd still say that's the place to head to.
