I believe it's main purpose is to curtail the amount of spam, prevent those solely here to profiteer, and to stop people gaining rank(s) by abusing the system and doing the bare minimum.

Hey, I heard somewhere on the forum. Merit is also donated from one person to another and the merit is also awarded monthly based on the quality of the article. I am not sure. I hope to have positive information on this issue.

I don’t understand how this merit system stop spams. It might increase meaningful post, but it cannot stop spammers to post spam.
