Blockchain does not require a lot of time to understand it's princliples and to start to create your own. Same applies for smartcontracts and dapps on popular blockchains. The crutial point is to learn them how to write secure code, because this is what matters. Everybody can learn few principles and how we create something and some basics of programming languages.

If you are a good computer sciences teacher, you can learn along with your students. Well, this is just my guess but I think it is a pretty good one. I remember Stephen Hawking (or someone of his caliber) telling that when he had been first teaching mathematics at university in early 1970s, he was only two weeks ahead of his own students. Thus it shouldn't be much of an issue you have deep prior knowledge of networks and applied cryptography.

Well blockchain technology falls under, and is really just an application of computer science, so I'm sure any developer worth his salt could grasp the key concepts fairly easily. It shouldn't be too dissimilar from finding experts on new, emerging technologies.

Cyrptocurrency classes, specifically, seem trickier to me because I have no idea what could be taught under the subject. It would be interesting for a class to tackle the several different technological approaches they take, but investment related ones (except maybe their business application) shouldn't be taught at school in my opinion.

True, after all, cryptography is applied Computer Science and blockchain is just applied cryptography. Key concepts and features about how the blockchain works shouldn't be much of an issue for the professor as it's fairly easy to understand. At our current generation, you'll be amazed on how well the youth work their way around computers and codes, and a prime example of that is Vitalik Buterin. It's not about a question of caliber regarding the blockchain tech. It is important, yes, but someone with a deep understanding of computer science would suffice in teaching in this field.

Many people will be literate of what is really happening in virtual world of currencies. Aside from that they will be more responsible for what they are doing as well. They can be independent by their own using bitcoin. New generations will be the future of our country and learning these kinds of knowledge will be a great help for them.

Reading this article shows how far the knowledge is spreading and gradually becoming something difficult to tame no matter how the try. Despite the fact that a lot of people joining in those classes might be doing it for their own selfish reason and not necessarily to increase the body of knowledge, its still something that is worth happy about that in the many that are interested maybe few will eventually stay and be genuinely interested.

The majority of the schools here are in the United States which shows the amount of flexibility in the curriculum because over here, to alter the curriculum to accommodate for new area of knowledge like crypto, is an herculean task because of the bureaucratic impediments but I wish others academicians can see this as an opportunity to increase knowledge and solve problems.

this has been going on for a while now. from small workshops to full courses and more.
there are a lot of big names among them too. Universities such as MIT, Berkley for example started their courses 2 years ago.

I agree. Once the basic principles of how to think when coding are already there, blockchain is just like a different language. With blockchain (that can effectively be used without actually having a coin), we get a new database system which can optimize and hold histories of practically unlimited tasks.

I think it's important for students to be learning about this material, because it could easily be the next push in the tech future. If students get a head start on it now, they'll be able to work with it later.

Many institutions are testing blockchain technology, this is nothing new. Many see it as a future technology that could make businesses easier.

I agree, we have to admit that blockchain technology is fairly young and most experienced developers are already in the field with big companies and well compensated. I don't think that they can be lure in the educational system to share their knowledge.

I still remember when I was learning C/C++ back in the days (mid 90's-late 90's), we have to do self study as we can't find professors. And those we find just learn the basics and even some of my friends have advance knowledge than the teacher.

This is good news. I imagine this department of every country will be wise enough or open minded enough to at least explore the idea of cryptocurrency. Naturally, there is more young people that are enthusiastic about crypto than old people. And we can find a lot of young people at universities. Right now we need a lot of support for this tech to fully bloom but if old people keep on saying negative things about it and hindering it for their own selfish reasons. Well, only time can tell. We might lose this tech or we might develop a new tech from it.
