It's not like a regular like you do on facebook or other social media platforms. At bitcointalk.org, high merit score means that you have high posts quality, it means that you comments are really worth for some people because you got honored for them. I think that in the future there are going to be more requirements, but at the moment you need to have atleast X amount of merit to advance for the next rank, and that's a good idea, because it prevents shit posters from getting advanced for high ranks. It's going to do a simple thing, high rank is going to have a direct connection with the quality post, you won't find Hero members posting comments with non-sense as it's common to see now.

On those platforms (FB etc) likes are also showing meaningfulness of the post or the page. So it's the same in the start. Difference only in amount. Here if you earned 100 merits you are godlike and on FB you need 10k+ to be like trend maker, isn't it?) It's going to do a simple thing, high rank is going to have a direct connection with the quality post, you won't find Hero members posting comments with non-sense as it's common to see now.
why not?) what will prevent any member from posting useless post except they don't want to lose their time) the only thing could be done with it now is to make their trust negative, but it's obviously too much. I think paying merit for posting could do something, but it needs much more merits to circulate in system (may be we are moving somewhere there in long term? )

What if some one makes useless posts then rank down that person? I have seen many people saying that It is very hard to up rank now . I think I have made some useful posts, So far I have got 3 merits, Thanks for them who granted me merits . But I don't know when I can become a member? need 7 more merits for it.

You know what mate, for the new rules we had it smerit or merits in the forum is the biggest problems by many of the community member here. And newbies will be stock at Member in rank for a long time, And I don't think it is a good idea but we do nothing but to follow this new rules. So for sure giving merit to others will depend on the decision for the individuals and I think it doesn't matter if the post is constructive or not it can give smerit if they like to give.

There's a reason why it's called "merit" and not "like" and what meaningfulness are talking about? you mean friends liking each other's post regardless of the content or baseless opinions/pictures of good looking people especially with a little nudity garnering huge amount of likes? It's going to do a simple thing, high rank is going to have a direct connection with the quality post, you won't find Hero members posting comments with non-sense as it's common to see now.

I think paying merit for posting could do something, but it needs much more merits to circulate in system (may be we are moving somewhere there in long term? ) If that's the case, the lower rank members can't post since they do not have any merits and consequently can't gain one since they can't post. If this merit system doesn't reduce the amount of spam and account farming here, theymos might impose a more stricter rules/system but to fully test it we need to give it some time.

Unlike on bitcointalk, where a high exposure rate wouldn't necessary mean that you are going to receive a high amount of merit score, you would need your post to be at a high quality as well. It's much easier to receive likes on facebook then merit scores on bitcointalk.

Merit is so precious thing to be receive by the user to another one since by getting more merits it can make their account eligible for next rank up if they reach the require merit that set from the new account rank up rules. So if you can give merits to anyone try to share it since you can help other to grow on this forum but make sure that the people you is deserving to receive the merit score.

Merit basically create for one reason, to enforce people to make quality post though this is a new requirement for you to rank up but its main reason is to maintain quality. Some campaign right now are using merit as their basis of payment rate and if you are holding a lot of merit then you are probably qualify for that.

Merit will enable the people to start posting high quality content and now going forward it not every one will be ranked higher or in other terms if considering the things only few will rank higher as per the combination of activity combined with merits required. So it will be a huge tasks for people to keep up with their work and move forward in rank.

I think I understood how Admins wanted us to use merit system! If every merit holder take part in this "flow", we will have much faster growing merit balances and much more people will want to make something useful! Of course we need this system to rate members by their usefulness for the community, but i think we need to share our respect more easily, like in any other social network for example... I mean that we must not think SO MUCH about every point we give to somebody (yes i think current restriction on the amount and income of Merits is too small, but of course they must be limited due to a day for example). Its awesome to show how much every member is "liked" by the community, but for now we already have "whales" who became Caesar for gladiators with his big finger pointing up or down, and some of them become such not only because they are well known veterans, perfect bounty managers or smth, but only for ranking up their account in a proper time (and nobody know how much spam they made ) One more idea about the problem with too much same theme or useless posts... It would be great to make Topic Starting Merit needed (sorry for my English). I mean if you want to start topic - you need to pay merit for it *And may be it would be interesting to merit Topics, to keep them close to pinned themes without commenting with for example every day merit decreasing and 0,5 of Topic merits going to topic starter... (you know it is hard to stop when you started to dream... ) I hope you will not find this topic totally bullsh@t and MAY be it will help somehow to make this place more close to perfect. Thanks for reading and sharing your opinion Actually merit is a virtue it means it is a grasya or blessing that we posting a very satisfactory answer you can get a merit and its nice to us because merit is a great and bitcoin is wonderful oppurtunity

I mean if you want to start topic - you need to pay merit for it Nice try but this is not a good idea because newbies and jr members won't have the ability to start their own thread plus the activity here in the forum might decrease if it happens because not everyone here starts useless threads. Imo it'll do more harm than good for the forum and there's no need for this because we already have the report button for that if it's really getting out of hand.

I like the new system, only needs some tweaking IMHO to have the merit sources and higher ranked members distribute merits more ,if you wish, willingly and easily at the moment they have no incentitive to merit a newbie unless he is some outstanding exception to the rule because of the fear they can get accused of multiaccounting and such most of the merits are transfered to the already established quality posters, usually high ranked too while I would like to see new people who put effort into posting rewarded more often

It might be difficult to see now but merit is something that is coming in full force and a lot of improvement have been seen. Today, I tend to dedicate more time to posts that has gotten merit than those that have not but that does not mean its perfect because I have equally seen some that don't worth it such as announcement of a campaign being given merit. I have also seen some posts that deserves merit but none given.
How it works is to increase quality of posts and gradually only some those who can make that would be allowed in campaigns. The challenge is those who will do everything to frustrate it. But with suggestions here and there, the forum can get better and cleaned up eventually.

I think I have made some useful posts, So far I have got 3 merits, Thanks for them who granted me merits . But I don't know when I can become a member? need 7 more merits for it.
I'm also very pleased and happy for my first merits) THANK YOU guys! but I also realize, how far is now my new rank (before merits system turned on i needed about 5 messages to rank up ) Imagine the difference between your need of 7-10 points and than 100 merits, than 150 more and etc... It looks like to become Legend (not from the start) now you will need about a year or more... It is quite fair, but not for those who were 1 step from this rank) It's not the same, because at facebook high amount of likes would mean high exposure rate, and on facebook you can give unlimited amount of likes to unlimited amount of people, so high exposure rate would directly mean that you are going to have a massive amount of likes. Unlike on bitcointalk, where a high exposure rate wouldn't necessary mean that you are going to receive a high amount of merit score, you would need your post to be at a high quality as well. I agree that here you need not only a good reputation to get merited, but also post something really useful. But as @veleten said later unless newbie is some outstanding exception to the rule because of the fear they can get accused of multiaccounting and such most of the merits are transfered to the already established quality posters, usually high ranked too
I think it's close to truth because if you see high merited member you will give him some more much easily than you give it to newbie even if he is posting something clever (may be he is multi acc of any St Member who was despaired to rank up ) And I still can't see a big difference except the hole amount of merits and the number of them that everyone has at their disposal. So in longterm due to merit emission (if it will not be controlled, but nobody won't know it ) their price/weight will decrease and we will share them more often) One more idea about the problem with too much same theme or useless posts... It would be great to make Topic Starting Merit needed (sorry for my English). I'm not sure that they have a big need of it) Most of questions where discussed in the forum more than one time and if they want to ask smthng they can do it in special threads. To addition we have special part of the forum for newbies, where they could post (when i was newbie I really thought that i could not write outside that part And understood that it's fair, because I was much less experienced in this world). About report button i think it is only for really outstanding events ant not for useless posts) In real world much more than half on spoken words are totally useless and many people are not worth listening but we hear them so i think it's ok to post any idea that you have, even you did not know much))

Well yes, but most of the newbies are users will little to no knowledge about bitcoin or maybe something minimal. There are newbies that prove that newbies as well can write quality posts. They just need to spend a little more time on the forum to catch up with the crypto, nothing new. The problem is that they're expecting to get merit for every post they make. I'm trying to give out merit points everywhere I see it's possible, to motivate people and remind them that they can give merit. Tho, it's a rather new system that's been implemented, can't expect it to work over night.

Higher rank with more merit should do this, giving merit to lower rank who are posting more constructive will gives good motivation and will boost their self esteem and will contribute well in this forum, hope many member will be like you.

On a normal sense, that is what we all hope for; for the higher members to give to lower members with high quality post some merits but the truth still remains that most higher ranks do not give it out or probably feel reluctant to do so. I have seen some posts from few junior members that deserve merit but no merit where given and low quality posts of higher member been given merit. I try my best to give out merits if I have but it will be nice if people here should try more. It will be good if things here are be fair.
