Well, for me aside from Bitcoin being the king and pioneering coin Altcoins are born because of Bitcoin or simply Altcoins are another coin or digital currency that uses the blockchain technology. One of the difference between the two is that Altcoins are pretty dependent to Bitcoin while Bitcoin itself is not dependent on Altcoins.
