hello i have one question,
i have 2x Gigabyte 6950OC (1GB 870Mhz 1250Mhz)
i am using 11.6 drivers and 2.4 sdk
my problem is that when i am mining
if i open any application which use 3d also flash player 10 (play clip in youtube.com)
in first 1 sec my mouse and keyboard block and in next 4-5sec whole system is blocking, keep freezed

any idea what can cause that?
befor this vga's i got 8600GT and 220GT, never have such freezes, just if i had set AGGRESSION=2 to my 220 (it was connected to monitor) and everything worked correct without nay lags or something

thanks in advance,
regards

p.s. i actually wants to ask this in https://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=13483.0 but sew that i am not able to do that and then i see that restrictions to the new users.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Mine does that too.  The most complex 3d games play fine, but playing a simple video locks the system up. Finally figured out how to get around it -- right click the video area and turn hardware acceleration off.

@nafai: you play games fine (without freeze) while mining with 6950OC?

no, they are talking about right clicking on a flash video and getting options that way. but this doesnt always work, as with me. possibly 11.7 ccc could fix this.

Yep.  But it's only slightly overclocked, with the ATI CCC, not with MSI afterburner or anything. And I use the -f setting to keep the miner low priority, so when I'm gaming, my total hashrate drops about 100 mhash/sec to let the video card render the graphics while it is mining (about a third of its activity cuz I get about 330 mhash/sec per card)

It's a known issue with the 6000 series cards.  AMD hopes to address it in Catalyst 11.8.

I am running the catalyst 11.7 pre release drivers and while my system objectively seems more stable it still crashes on youtube or vlc. But i got like.5-1 mhash/s better than with cataylist 11.6 hope that helps at all. I think the above poster is right and it will be resolved in 11.8

According to the information from the same thread, unfortunately 11.7 and 11.8 have a bug that causes 100% cpu utilization on a core.  This may be causing the loss in performance.

@nafai - thanks you very much, will test it, hope it will help, but will be very strange to me if help at all

@ToriAmos1963 - thank you for usefull link, i currently installed 11.7 will test it around, first i see that my hash is keeping hell stable with same args, do not down-up from 732, before (11.6) it's change like a hell with this args when i start any other app, vlc drop it down with like 30 mhs, now looks like fixed Cheesy hope also lock bug is fixed, at first look 11.7 looks very well done

@jpinconline - i have never have any problems with VLC, i fixed youtube (FlashPlayer) problem with @nafai, @streetuff, @haydent suggestion (FlashPlayer -> right mouse button -> settings... -> uncheck "enable hardware acceleration"), after i do that i never take freez from Flash again, worked 100% for me, to me 11.7 give around 2-3 more mhs but looks alot more stable, keep constant performance :-), but you have tested beta package anyway Smiley

@trasixes - video/flash is fixable with all drivers i guess, just that flash player hardware accelerations ;-)

@ToriAmos1963 - i do not think the crashes are something with cpu but it's just my thing Cheesy, to me 11.7 looks the same as cpu usage, both of my processes take 13% my 3-th core keep around 70% usage, 5 and 7 core keep around 25-30% usage, looks like the same as with 11.6 package to me, i do not know if it's possible to be something about the 6000 series vgas, or this cpu problem is also with 5000?

going to test around options, let's hope lock will be avoided Cheesy

:-) as i side very good package 11.7, currently play wow and lotro, and never lockedup, also the lowering of mining performance is not that high, 732-735 is lowered to 676-690 mhs during play.

Me too.  I just installed 11.7 and my computer no longer locks up when I try to play back video, both local and web flash.
