Digital cryptocurrencies are slowly adapting to everyday life to create a new revolutionary economy based around digital money. Bitnote allows anyone, anywhere to send money instantly around the world at nearly zero fees.

Bitnote is a digital Cryptocurrency based on the CryptoNote technology. Bitnote provides complete anonymity for users within the blockchain by using the revolutionary concept of Ring Signatures. Ring Signatures mixup transaction data with other transactions to make it nearly impossible for blockchain analysist to determine where the money came from, and who it was sent to.

About

Bitnote was launched on 2/16/18 at 5:00 PM Eastern time.
Bitnote is a digital Cryptocurrency based on the CryptoNote technology, allowing anyone to send and receive money anywhere on or off earth.

Bitnote offers but is not limited to the following features:

So with that being said, still curious why Bitnote is different than the other CryptoNote based Cryptocurrencies?
Bitnote is intended to be an alternative to other CryptoNote coins because, our goal for Bitnote is to become a light weight, easy to use, fast version of Monero while not forking Monero's source code. Bitnote uses a custom difficulty algorithm (as seen above) which allows for protection against hash attacks, botnet attacks etc... This also allows for household/hobbyist miners to put that old once expensive mining hardware to use and make a buck. Bitnote strives for speed and anonymity throughout it's blockchain. Bitnote is still in it's very early development stages, and we are continuing to improve it as time moves on...

Where can i view your white-paper?
Since Bitnote is a direct fork from the CryptoNote implementation, we felt it was unnecessary at this time. However you can view the original CryptoNote white-paper for more info on how Bitnote works. (See below)

When will pre-built source code binaries release?
Pre-built binaries for Bitnote will be released within a few days from the Bitcoin Talk ANN post. If you would like to build the source code your self, or just snoop around and view the work we've done so far, checkout our Github Page.

What will the premine be used for?
Bitnote was premined 1 million coin out of a maximum supply of 12 million, this is to pay for very pricy exchange listing fees (reference); bounties for things such as but not limited to, graphic design, social media content, forum postings, bug reports and other future concepts for Bitnote...

How did the premine take place?
The premine was distributed to our development team from the genesis block, this means we are not post mining any blocks except for the very first block within the blockchain. All blocks after block height 1, are mined by the community...

Roadmap Preview

  • Stable GUI wallet builds (Windows, Mac OS, Linux: Coming soon...)
  • Web wallet, block explorer
  • Apply for exchange listing (Currently pending: TradeOgre.com)
  • Fork the blockchain and increase minimum mixin count from 0-3, at the target block height...

Donations

Feel free to leave us a donation at our Bitnote address, this is always optional...
Code:
Bitnote: B575kNDSxK9EgcAdCcddjsdMQ914zfy2619h7LW6JkmpbDDM9vsqnikKSZq3SjugJ5UMmhDbB2hN7GBjn1Hz12aJ52WTZLj

Specifications

  • Ticker: XBN
  • PoW Algorithm: CryptoNight-Dark (Activating at height 30,000)
  • Max Supply: 12 million
  • Premine: 1 million
  • Block Reward: Smoothly varying using the formula (M−A) / (218) / (1012) where M = 264 −1 and A = supply mined to date.
  • Block Time: 60 seconds
  • Emission: 18 years
  • Difficulty: Retargets at every block
  • Difficulty Algorithm: Weighted-Weighted Harmonic Mean (WWHM)
  • P2P-bind-port: 11551
  • RPC-bind-port: 11552

Mining

  • Compile from source code.
  • Launch bitnoted and wait until it is synchronized.
  • Launch simplewallet --generate-new-wallet=wallet_name.bin --pass=12345
  • Start mining from the wallet using start_mining command.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Perhaps, I like the following statement of developers in this coin. "Bitnote is a digital Cryptocurrency based on CryptoNote technology, Bitnote provides complete anonymity to users in a block chain using the revolutionary concept of Ring Signatures.Ringsignments combine data transactions with other transactions to make it almost impossible for the analyst to blockchain to determine where the money, and to whom it was sent.
"Perhaps this is one of the necessary requirements for the community.

i'm using make on ubuntu 17.10 = no work

It says premine 1 million actually. And no, you don't have to be a "ultra-geek" to compile it correctly. Works fine on Ubuntu 16.04. Did you download all required dependencies? It's not that hard tbh, it's the same process as with every other cryptonote coin.

17.10 has a new gcc version and it's throwing errors (not just warnings)

Why are you blaming others for your compilation problems when you are using 17.10, a non-LTS release? Obviously compilation is only tested and directly supported on 16.04.3. If you want to compile on other versions you have to know what you're doing.

got it to compile by modifying a struct

also : how hard is it to do a proper release these days ? like compiling binaries so that everyone can mine equally ? uploading a binary takes, what, 2 seconds ?

Trust me, it annoys me too that these shitcoins are released with barely any effort by the devs. My guess is that they don't even know how to compile binaries properly.

Looks like the 2 pools are on different block heights.  I've checked to make sure LAB Binary Mining's pool wallet is getting paid and it is.  Our wallet is sending money out to the miners successfully.  Not sure if the other pool is at fault or if its our pool or the coin.  Please take a look at it for us.

the low supply alone makes this coin attractive

but also, in spite of the source-code only release, you can tell by looking the github (https://github.com/xbn-project/bitnote) the devs have a sense of what is the cryptonote blockchain, as they already have made some improvements.

in other words this doesn't seem to be just another stale fork
maybe it's in the league of TurtleCoin (active devs), SUMO, Monero, etc.

the network hashrate has been very low with no released binary wallet in any event, so it's going to be very profitable to mine, when the binaries come out (which should be today or tomorrow, I guess)

the network hashrate has been very low with no released binary wallet in any event, so it's going to be very profitable to mine, when the binaries come out (which should be today or tomorrow, I guess)
cannot be very profitable if it has no value  Grin
no devs reaction for long time, probably gone away create some next shitcoin

I thought that it need a functional product.
Time is enough?

I'll create new currency, with pool, with working windows wallet and your job will get it to exchange.
We will wait for some time and we will be rich. Is it so easy? If yes, give me a name for new coin.

I love the fact that the coin has built-in NiceHash difficulty attack mitigation built-in from the start, whereas many Cryptonote coins have been repeatedly pulsed/targeted before they implemented any type of defense.

See TurtleCoin for reference or Alloy... they suffered a lot from NiceHash attacks before they did anything. So a lot of the supply is from successful NiceHash pulse.

What is a NiceHash attack ? Well basically, a "Nice" Hasher is somebody who launches a distributed high-energy hashing commando operation on a given network. This operation will account sometimes for 50%+ of the total network hash. NiceHashers will be spiking the difficulty eventually, but in the mean time, they profit from the lag in difficulty retargeting. When difficulty spikes at last, a NiceHasher leaves the network. Difficulty remains high for a long time for "normal" miners. And when difficulty is normal again, a NiceHasher can launch a new difficulty attack.

NiceHash attacks also tend to disrupt the blockchain by creating unwanted forks, forcing pools offline. This means more work for the devs and pool maintainers and can also disrupt the pool ecology.

It's also a concern for the community of the coin, because normal miners feel left out and abused by NiceHashers, who are usually very unsavory characters. I would go as far as claim that NiceHash abuse screwed not only the organic TurtleCoin (a community coin) growth, but also the community itself.

Looking forward to see where this is going to go. Love the limited supply also.

yeah something seems fishy, I have to say. it's not the only pool per se, but the other one (http://bitnote.labbinarymining.com/) is empty (edit : and also offline)

the pool creator doesn't seem linked to the coin creators. (he created pool for another coin as well)

however I wonder why he removed the "Estimate Mining Profits" part from the pool.

from reddit

Quote
Question : I'm all for Cryptonote forks, love the algo and the principle behind these types of currencies however the premined amount for BitNote is huge (~8.3%). Can you address this and why this isn't a get rich quick scheme for the devs?

Quote
Answer : Ah yes. This is understandable. We premined this amount because, we intend to launch on several exchanges such as, TradeSatoshi, BTC-Alpha, TradeOgre and many more... The listing fees for most of these well known trading websites can vary, from 1.5 Bitcoin up to 15 Bitcoin. This can get very expensive to keep up with, we are also shifting a percentage of the funds towards things like, seed nodes, website domains, vps hosting etc... to run Bitnote and efficiently. To sum things up, it’s very expensive to run a successful Cryptocurrency these days... And some sort of premine will benefit the coin in the end. With that being said, there will also be bounty rewards for different tasks completed by members of the community.

ybelevi I had this error compiling in Ubuntu 17. I fixed it by remedying the "All warnings being treated as errors".

What you need to do is clone the github. Go into your bitnote directory and grep search for "Werror *"

it will show up in 2 or 3 files. You then need to VI into those files (I believe they are all cmaker files) and DELETE any place you see Werror.  Save those files, recompile...it will throw the warnings but not stop compilation. In the end, the wallet works. I have been mining since last night and receiving payments.

Ubuntu is free. You can run a virtual box (also free) with ubuntu on your windows system and install the linux wallet to use in the meantime. I know it's not ideal but it would let you get in the game.

yes because it is a hard fork all mined blocks will remain the same so your wallet wont be affected unless you mine on the old chain after hard fork happen

It is nice that you offer the binaries. However, any binaries downloaded other than from the official site might be tainted with malware. Please note that I am not accusing you in any way. I am just pointing out a fact. Sometimes even the wallet from official site is not safe. https://news.bitcoin.com/a-hacker-gained-access-to-the-bitcoin-gold-windows-wallet-github/

It's not my pool... I am not LabBinary
Payments are good on my end (you can see 1% fees being substracted in the UI)
Also, orphans are normal with a 1 min. block time.
This coin needs to be decentralized. If we can achieve 50% / 50% hashpower everything will be good.
Join http://bitnote2.labbinarymining.com/ if you care to make this coin stronger !

Payments >20 are darker
Payments <20 are lighter

So, we'll have to run the source code on Linux to get wallet address? Wouldn't have been helpful if there was an offline web wallet marker

Whaaat  Huh I don't believe. Must check it.
I'v add Wallet generator script, and it contains some hashing function for generating address, maybe its that 'problem'.

Bitnote offline wallet generator
http://bitnotepool.ga/#support

I welcome the Windows users in this party!

Nothing stops you from saving the keys and mnemonic seeds and then getting control of those wallets. I would never use an online mnemonic seed generator like this one. Looks very suspicious, even though the pool looks ok. Just remember who many millions were stolen the same way with an online IOTA mnemonic seed generator.

Yeah, SondysIT saving all generated wallets, then one by one trying synchronized (take a long time) and search for some coins  Grin
You can look into source code, there is no XHR request or anything else which allows him to view what you do. U can save whole page [ http://bitnotepool.ga/pages/support.html ] to your computer, switch off from network and generate own address. Then nobody can acces to it  Wink

He did it because win wallet is not released yet. But I understand your concern.

The guy who made the IOTA mnemomic seed generator, did exactly what you described above, in some automatic way. But you get what i mean, crypto world is full of dangers.

Amongst the apparent hordes of newly created cryptonote coins, this sounds interesting!
How is the shift from CryptoNight to CryptoNight-Dark algorithm going to go down?
I am guessing that we´ll need a new miner? Using xmrig atm.

At block 30,000 the network will instantly shift to the new CryptoNight-Dark and the new difficulty algorithm. Until miner support is added for 3rd party mining software, users will have to solo mine with CPU's; we've already contacted mining software developers and notified them.

EDIT:

I got past the errors below with a few changes:

Code:
mkdir build
cmake .
vi CMakeLists.txt
    # under project(bitnote)
    set(CMAKE_RUNTIME_OUTPUT_DIRECTORY ${CMAKE_BINARY_DIR}/build)
    set( CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS " -pthread " )

this gave an alternate output dir for the builds as well as linked to the pthread library properly

latest version is hopelessly broken.

sychronizes to 29xxx, then reorganizes back to 25xxx, resynchronizes, repeat.

I faced that one also.

Workaround available by downloading the blockchain at height 30074 from the http://bitnotepool.ga pool.
Tested successfully.

Looks like we need a fix for 1.1.2

Note sure if this has something to do...

Code:
/cryptonote_protocol_handler.inl:271[int cryptonote::t_cryptonote_protocol_handler<t_core>::handle_response_get_objects(int, cryptonote::NOTIFY_RESPONSE_GET_OBJECTS::request&, cryptonote::cryptonote_connection_context&) [with t_core = cryptonote::core]][103.30.144.99:11551 OUT]sent wrong NOTIFY_HAVE_OBJECTS: arg.m_current_blockchain_height=29746 < m_last_response_height=29915, dropping connection

Thanks, I'm using the blockchain from .ga and will try solomining if the daemon and chain is stable.

Without a block explorer, or better command line commands, it's hard to monitor the progress of this blockchain.  But it looks like blocks are being added less than 1 every 30 minutes.  How long will this last?

Would like commands like 'status' or 'diff' added, especially to see network hash rate, and import of priv keys or mnemonic seed.

You need to replace previous blockchain with this and restart the daemon after with this new item.
Usually, files are stored in $HOME/.bitnote
(Such folders can be seen with Ctrl+H through your linux desktop.)

[2018-03-10 03:28:04] : Result rejected by the pool.
[2018-03-10 03:28:07] : Result rejected by the pool.

"Low difficulty share"

OK, seems like it's bitnotepool.ml. Yet to solve a block, but connection and communication has be (re)established.  Looking forward to what this pool can do. Will update progress

Oh. Didn't know that the party has moved to discord. Would be joining up shortly. However, I think the dev should also maintain a presence here too
