Has anyone bought a refurbished gaming computer off eBay to cut cost and start mining?  Huh Huh
Cut cost on buying some of the basics. OS , cpu, motherboard, memory.
Thanks in advanced for your ideas. Undecided

If the gaming that is offered to to is good then its a good way to go, however since the GPUs price skyrocketed last month many people are scamming to get a profit out of this. I suggest that if you can meet up to the seller of the rig to check it that would be great.

You shouldn't buy a gaming pc since it's overpowered and has a different use. CPU / Ram / SSD is really not expensive for a mining rig and the only part you would use from a gaming pc is the GPU / PSU. Also the board is probably not the right for it. So instead you could just buy this stuff new:

CPU: Intel Celeron G3900 (Socket 1151)
Ram: Crucial Value Series DDR4-2133
SSD: 120gb ssd of choice
Board: ASrock 81pro / MSI Z170A / Gigabyte GA-H110

GPU & PSU of your choice

In some cases the G3900 may actually not be the absolute cheapest CPU for 1151 out there. The G3930 has taken that spot in my experience, and searching eBay confirms this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Celeron-G3930-Dual-Core-Kaby-Lake-Processor-Socket-LGA-1151-OEM-Ver/323057913064?epid=829614059&hash=item4b37c08ce8:g:eLMAAOSw8i9achQ1

This ships from the US and the next closest items are G3900s that ship from China. A bit more power for absolutely free.

It really just depends at what price the computer is being sold for. eBay is very buyer sided so it's exceptionally unlikely you'll be scammed.

i would start with one of these bundles from evga

https://www.evga.com/products/featured-bundles.aspx

that way, you get a high-end motherboard, and a hard to come by GPU in one go.  Actually, they are selling out rapidly.

RAM SSD CPU and PSU can be pieced together on amazon for 300 total.

I think it's very Risk, we don't know how the quality of their device. I think better buying in the offline store, or you can meet up with the seller.
