amdgpu-pro drivers for my rx 580s on ubuntu not working

I'm trying to install the drivers amdgpu-pro drivers for my rx 580s on ubuntu, and when I reboot, it keeps going black and won't ever get to the login screen. I can access the tty and uninstall them, and then everything is fine and dandy.

Are there alternative drivers I can use? Can anyone advise? I'm not a huge linux guy, just trying it since Windows was not very stable, so please forgive my ignorance.
