we should not have bad thoughts to others. I think the key here is the quality of their posts. Maybe they really deserve 50 merit because of good post quality.

Sure we should. These people who abuse the merit system are cunts. I think the key here is the quality of their posts. Maybe they really deserve 50 merit because of good post quality.
Posts look pretty bad, plus the format of the posts looks very similar. These accounts are probably alts sending merit to each other--which is basically what you'd expect them to do. This is probably enough evidence for actmyname to tag the account(s). If you're looking for the Zen cow version of bitcointalk, try whatever local board fits that description. People who abuse sig campaigns, shitpost, give merit wrongly, sell/farm accounts, and commit every other bitcointalk offense are going to get called out for what they are. They richly deserve punishment.

There should be a merit police. I'm sure many merit abuse are very obvious if one comes across them and should be dealt with.

Because merit can be reward to other user but same person to rank up his/ her accounts. I think this is the effect of merit to everyone who have hundreds of accounts manage by one person. By giving large amount of merit can be very suspicious.

Glad that a new member is taking out his time to report suspicious behavior. Some suggestions for you: 1) We already have a thread about merit abuse where all members are reporting such cases. Link to the thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2896910.02) You should also quote the messages for which these merits were sent so that we can judge better.

Yes, we should have lots of regulations about what people do with the merit they earn/receive. We need to make sure that these regulations are made up arbitrarily and retroactively, and be made by people who are never held accountable in any way.

I am sure those account is only have 1 owner that is too obvious exchanging huge amount of merit. Those account should need to review by merit police and will be tagged. Abusing merit to help ranking up his own account is not tolerable because those merit should be given to the member who wrote more constructive, well contributed post and not good to give those merit because that is account of your friends, wife, relatives or your alt account.

Hahaha. There should be a merit police. I'm sure many merit abuse are very obvious if one comes across them and should be dealt with.
Stop it. First, Merit is self policing. When a shit poster gives away their merit they help clean up the merit that is available to shit posters. Even if that shit poster is giving the merit to their alt. The utility of each merit spent is diminishing, it decays by half each time it is spent. Thus allowing a trail of squandered merit to die off quickly.

We are in the position where if we say anything bad about it, it could be taken against us for being bitter on how hard it is to actually get one merit while a single posts accumulated 0 merits and if we keep quiet it just doesn't feel right.

As expected, people will find ways on how they can manipulate the merit system, their only problem is having this what we call audit trail, DT members can actually look on their merit history to check their transactions, I'm sure they are now looking in this scenario and will make proper action soon.

Your right many people want to manipulate this merit system. There are some members here in our place that are selling their merits to people that want to upgrade their rank.

There's no point in using the report button for the post because once merits are sent they can't be reversed/removed. Reporting the post would just delete the evidence of how the user is abusing the merit system with his alt accounts.
Right there's no need for a merit police because they can't abuse the system forever.

He seems like an old hand at the local board. (is that spanish??) Either using his own account or is probably colluding with the two other accounts in some merit trading. His other posts in the local section include a lot of other content too. yeeey smart trader ! hurray
old account more grow . new comer adopter at price 8k++ get rid off . amazing system .
He has been here a long time it seems. He'll be taken care of if the mods decide so. Don't be bitter about it. The system is not getting rid of anyone if you are contributing to it. I see your post history and you had been posting 2 sentences without content. Now you are crying about the merit system. You are the typical Jr. Member I wished to address in a previous post I made. Go read it. I suggest you find the patience to learn and contribute. Finding spammers would also be a good way to contribute. Take a look at the link by sushanika in a reply above where such posts can be made. People are willing to help but first, you gotta help yourself.

Hopefully Lauda and Theymos gets to see this. This just show that the merit system is fool proof and prone to scam accounts. In my opinion, I think we have more valid members than the bogus ones.

Is it fair to say that there is a need to monitor large numbers of likes and dislikes, in which case it is necessary to review the posting's contribution and if it is not a problem for most, it is not intentional.

It's plain to see that people tend to abuse this merit system because of its scarcity and the impact of it on the newbie or recent users of the forum. That's why other older user try to use this chance to sell their smerits to those who are able to buy it.
