Hey guys,

As you know nobody sell GPU for a normal price anymore.
I want to add some rigs but doesnt worth to buy a RX580 for 500 $. I bought gtx 1080 ti for 650$ in 2017. I can not accept that.

I tried to find other solutions. These cards are not produced anymore but you can find it for a affordable price:
I think only equihash is possible due to the DAG file and GPU size limited by 3 / 4 gb.

R9 280x ( 250-300sol at 180w )
R9 390 ( 34 mh/s but nearly 300w )

You guys know other cards u can get easily used on eBay for less than 250-200$??

On amazon there's still the occassional evga 1080ti sc2 for $830 and some MSI/Zotac models below $800, but they sell out in a minute.
Must be fast!

Yeah..
Not only on Amazon, also another online store very faster sold out if price normal or cheaper from another seller.

R9 390 ( 34 mh/s but nearly 300w )
At 2017, I buy secondhand R9 390 8 GB priced $170  on the Online store. The shortcomings of this GPU is heat and the hungry power consumption except someone have doesn't problem in electricity (cheap or free).

Would you guys buy 8 x rx570 8gb for 400$ each?

I dont know if I should wait for lower prices or not, because the crypto world could also reach another level which is directly affecting the price. Ethereum at 3000$ could make these cards more worth than 700$ later..

What would you prefer to buy:

1) 12 GTX 1060 3Gb (no worries I don't have to mine ETH) for 260 each one (3120 Total)

OR

2) 6 GTX 1070 Ti for 700 each one? (4200 total)

Please do NOT consider the resale prices. I keep the cards until they dies. So NO resale price to be kept in account when considering it.

I checked the profit of 12 Gtx 1060 3Gb and most of the times is slightly superiod (about 10/15%) compared to 6 Gtx 1070 Ti. BUT the power used by the 12 1060 would be slightly more than the 6 Gx 1070 ti

what would you choose? DO NOT CONSIDER THE RESALE PRICE. I KEEP THE CARDS UNTIL THEY BRUN/DIE/EXPLODE/DETONATE/NUKE.

If you cannot get GPUs for MSRP prices than just wait until you can, or until the next gen cards are announced/released this year.

Don't rush into a bad investment/ROI. You could park the $ elsewhere while you wait for a good price on GPU.

I have bought several 1080ti at MSRP here in canada via auto notify + patience. Just gotta be fast and wait for them to come in stock.

I'm willing to let go of them at $400 each. But honestly grabbing sub $900 1080tis are better than $400 rx570s. It's not all about payback period for the cards, there's also value at risk, time required to break even with amount risked...

Also if you strongly believe Eth will hit $3k within this year, it will be better to buy coins directly.

Yeah but you have also take in account that if you wait another 6 - 9 months the difficulty will increase too. So is it worth to wait a couple of months to save 100 -150 per card? However direct investments in coins are always more profitable than mining, that's 100% clear.

I don't think that buying any gpus today is smart choice, because new gen. gtx cards will come soon. Ampere for gamers and Turing for miners.

For the R9 390 to be profitable, you have to undervolt a lot.

Is mining coins using GPUs still viable? Are there any coins which are easy to mine?

Has anyone else heard about the new restrictions on purchasing GPUs, supposedly they have been restricted to 1 per purchase to avoid bulk buys for people setting up mining rigs?

Yes. There is such a restriction in my country.

When Amazon and Ebay have high prices I always go and check local marketplaces in my country. You should do the same, I have managed to get GTX 1050 ti used for about 80 EUR which is a bargain I would say. I have no preference on cards, as long as it is cheap price and it can mine it is good for me, this I got a Gigabyte Windforce dual fan making 16 Mhash Ethereum at +800 memory.

For 400 USD I would go for the RX 570 8GB, it's 31 Mhash each and 140 watt because these are difficult to undervolt, sure the MSI afterburner says you have done it correctly but my wattmeter says otherwise.

12x 1060/3G not considering resale value and space requirements. Easier to keep them cooler as well.

if the price is very important for you, you can buy 1070 for $379 with 150W power consumption, if your have more 1070 ti $469 and if cost is not matter and you only want operation you can buy 1080 for $599 and 180W power  consumption.

you can buy 1070 and make a good rig for mining of ETH but it seems in next few month, some company produce some special devices for ming, specialy for ETH mining. see below link for more information

https://www.cryptoinfomag.com/2018/02/12/eth-asic-arriving-soon/

it means, your rig in future maybe can not usable.
