WTB - Norton Internet Security 2011

I am wanting to buy a Norton Internet Security 2011..just the key, not the CD.

I used to get them off eBay for like $10 per year, but I can't find any now. I will pay 0.75 BTC for a working serial number for ONE year.

I don't know where the eBay sellers got them and how they sold them so low, but I don't care where it comes from if it works. I don't know how they could have been fake because to activate, it connects to Norton's servers and validates...

Anyways....... If I pay first, I want to make your you're a trusted seller.

they were able to sell norton keys so low because i believe frys or newegg sometimes had these FREE after a mail in rebate, and they sometimes comes as "family pack" that includes 3 keys. i believe i saw some people selling them on other forums for pretty cheap also, let me see if i can refer you to those sell threads on the other forums.

Why not use a free av like avast it's just as good If not better than norton.

I use http://www.avira.com/ - It's free, and it works great.  Just google how to get rid of the annoying daily popup.  No wallet.dat issues as with some of the other security software.  I highly recommend over Norton.  Tip please.

I haven't installed it (of course; I am using Linux!) so I am not sure exactly what it is or how long the subscription lasts. Though I could probably dig out the CD and look at it in a virtual machine and try to find out.

working in an IT department, I know there are people who would be willing to buy to get rid of Norton.  And MacAfee.

Really, stick with some of the free stuff out there. Microsoft Security Essentials is definitely better than Norton.  Norton acts like malware itself.

What? I've never heard this before. Everything I have ever heard is that the free ones don't give enough security if you want Always-on, Always-protecting firewall/protection...
I've used NIS for years and have never had security problems since I started using it

Do you have reliable sources/sites that I can go to find out more?

There's no serial key that I can find, or I wouldn't have bothered with the CD. I guess since it's an OEM it generates one during the installation? I can throw the setup.exe in Dropbox or something, but it's around 132MB so it'll take a few minutes to sync.

Well first of all, I don't trust any program that does this:


Norton is an Anti-virus software that acts like a virus.  It is a resource hog, it is bloated, it isn't that effective and it is super spammy and resistant to removal.
Microsoft Security Essentials is what is recommended to anyone at the University I work for if they're looking for a personal antivirus.  If they want a more heavy-duty one, they should purchase Microsoft Forefront (Waaaaaay better than Norton if you're looking to pay).  I stick with MSE and I've been fine. What have you read about comparing antivirus software these days?  A quick google search finds nothing good about Norton...

I worked in IT security for a while a few years ago and we switched everyone over to MSSE and Malwarebytes (free version). Right about 4,000 computers spread all across the USA.

beat the crap out of everything else at the time. No troubles in my two windows machines here either.

MSSE never bugs you every year or so like *all* the rest.

Be aware stuff still gets by MSSE and Malwarebytes has been good at catching most of it. Not all tho. Had two comps that I had to take to Ubuntu and now they are golden again.
