Hello all and thanks for the welcomes
Everyone's having a fine weekend I hope. I'm in New Zealand, and here it's halfway through Sunday already - one of the drawbacks of being first in line for the new day! my weekend is also done first
Electricity prices here are not too bad (equivalent to about .17c/kwh in USD) but still GPU mining profitability has been noticeably creeping downwards over the past few weeks, and I am starting to wonder how much longer before I have to decommission GPU mining, like some of my Australian friends have already.
When GPU mining is so power dependent, it's natural for it to be dominated by miners located in cheap power regions, and I believe the lessening profitability we are seeing is just a symptom of the hashrate shift to these regions.
can i ask what things you have used bitcoins for? im still hesistant
It's early days yet so the commercial uses are very limited compared to fiat, of course. But that aside, so far I've used them successfully in various private trades. And I'd be quite happy to accept them in lieu of cash, where the opportunity exists. I think it helps for individuals to be a part of their use rather than expecting a ready made world of bitcoin to spring up everywhere, not that I am accusing anyone of that. It's about making bitcoin real by being part of it, which is a lot more say than we have ever had in global financial matters previous.
