I was asking this question in some of my posts towards merit discussion, but as I noticed nobody actually read previous comments and it stayed without reply, so i decided to create a possible thread to see people's opinions. Sorry if this question was asked already.

I think that the merit system has got great potential. We've been promised some changes, and it will be interesting to see what they will be. I hope they won't be too major, and they will just be a bit of fine tuning.

I don't see merit as a means of ranking up, that is the purpose of activity. Merit is the gate that is intended to keep undesirable posters out of the senior ranks. You need to earn merit tokens to unlock the gate to be able to pass through. The combination of activity, merits and good moderation could rebuild Bitcoin Talk into the brilliant forum that it was a few years ago.

Yes, it's certainly possible. The merit system is more of an experiment right now and there's no guarantee it will be permanent but there's no plan to remove it either. Changes can and likely will be made to it especially regarding merit sources if it's not working as hoped.
Theymos has previously mentioned that if it's not successful removing signatures will likely be the only other option so people who are complaining about the merit system have better make it work because lets face it the only reason those people are even here in the first place is to earn money and they'll disappear like a fart in the wind as soon as signatures were removed.

I was not around when BCT was deemed to be a great forum and the place to be.  I was not having any issue with it since I joined but apparently many of the old timers thought it was going down the shitter with posts and campaigns.  If you have those feelings, that is definitely ok and your right to do so but don't always bash someone because they may not speak the best English or something else.  Those are truly the posts that I see as shit posts and pointless.  Just because someone is not of the "rank" you are does not make you any better than them.  Just because English may not be their first language or their grammar is not the greatest, dont just jump right on bashing them.  I can bet more than half of these "ranked" individuals would not say shit to that same person in public.

As far as the merit system...some people like it and others dont.  We just need to learn to embrace it as I dont see it going anywhere.  Work on making a better post and you might get rewarded...and then again, you might not because sometimes it is who you know, not what you know or how "qualitative" your post may be.

It's almost been a month since the merit system was implemented to promote constructive posting. I think that we are still currently on the testing or adjustment stage of it, so most likely its cancellation won't be any time soon. Also, if this system comes out to be successful in eliminating abusive users in this forum, then I think it would stay longer than we expect it pr even for good. For now and for always, do your best and view the system as an encouragement to do better and to be a good contributer on this forum.

To me I feel the merit system hasn't been able to solve the problems it was created to solve. This being that many meaningless posts are still made on the forum. Most people might be comfortable with their present ranks and won't care about ranking up and wont contribute meaning posts. This single attitude alone will make shitposts abound more. Merit system might be removed but it's only time that will tell and also another solution to making the forum more better.

From other comments I can conclude that merit is permanent and no matter how many users complain, this new system has it won't be cancelled. Thank you!

Merit system is a good idea. So that everyone will be encourage to have a quality and informative posts. But on the otherhand, if some of its rule will be violated to the extent of making it unfair to others, then maybe its better to cancel it or make some modification of the rules. Or maybe its a challenge to the administrator.

  The Merit system is here to stay! Reasons for that are obvious! Forum is growing and that grow
needs to be controlled somehow!
   I am reading what people say about and think about Merit system! Fact is if you wish to
earn some Merit`s you need to be extraordinary poster, if you are not you will need to make additional
effort.
   I agree with you, from all this comments many pass unnoticed, while some get Merits maybe without a good
reason. We can not do nothing about it! There are some people who give rewards for good comments
all you need to do is to send them PM or to post in Service Section in their topics, that is only if you
think that your comments are good enough.
   Greeklogos I will not blame you for your bad English, it is something that we all need to learn. You can
try more and you will see results very soon. If you wish to earn Merit`s you need to show more effort!
If you wish to make a statement about something and ask a question, try to elaborate it. What you think
about Merit system? Pros and Cons in your opinion. Why do you think that Merit system should be canceled?
Can you suggest some better system that can control so many people on this forum? You can add examples
from other forums if you have it, or examples of bad sides of Merit system.. I gave you fast description of
how one comment can have a meaning and look good, you can add so much more in your comments if you
decide to spent more effort and time in making them!

Just remove signature campaign all together and you won't have any problem with merits anymore
90% of spammers spams because they get paid by wearing signature, simply removing signature campaign and that 90% will leave from the forum.
Without Spammers, Theymos might remove merit system.
