Closing of trades, exchanges, rules on forbidding usage of crypto currencies, keep waiting to rotate the coins being held by individuals, closing of mining pools and etc causes altcoins prices fall to the ground. Dang! Bitcoin down to $8,800 and its because of that trustee whale that sold those bitcoins that he doesn't own.

When bitcoin falls, alts are falling too. This is a domino effect by the major coin in cryptocurrency so you're right that this is a normal scenario but not after holiday season.

Of course, what is happening now scares many newcomers in the world of crypto-currency, I sometimes myself am willing to sell some tokens, but I believe that the market will work out the traffic again, like the previous 4 years, after the Chinese New Year.

im agree with the view that the reason why the market is falling down is that more often, cryptocurrencies usually go up and down in line with news events. As u may have already noticed, whenever there is news that some big financial player signs a partnership with a blockchain company, that crypto’s price goes up. Consequently, when negative news hits the papers, prices go down and today makes no exception...
