APNG better than GIF!

But it's so unpopular, why?
GIF only supports 256 color palette
Where as APNG supports 16.1 Million colors.

GIF is based on 8 bit bitmap image.
Where as APNG is based on 24 bit PNG format.

GIF supports no transparency ( except with alpha channel)
APNG supports transparency inherently.
