STOP!! PLEASE STOP!!

STOP BEGGING FOR MERITS.

I’ve seen a lot of posts here from low rankers who were asking for merits. Such a shame guys!

Merits are like “RESPECTS”. Show people respect, show community some respect and most importantly, show admins and the rules here in bitcointalk some RESPECT.

If you can’t give them some of that, you won’t earn some bud.

Get merits or rather EARN merits like everyone else.

It’s just a matter of giving respect to the community.

Given that the author of this thread only has 2 merit himself, this could be a clever strategy to get some cheap merit from other users that are annoyed by newbies asking for merit  Tongue. I am however sure that this is an honest post that was caused by the authors disgust for spammers  Grin.

Do NOT ask for Merit.  Do NOT beg for Merit.

Merit is intended to be earned.  Attempting to acquire Merit without earning it is dishonest and an indication of an untrustworthy person.

As listed in my personal Merit Policy:
Policy: If you beg for merit (make any request that someone give you merit), you will receive negative feedback from me.

Reason: Merit is intended to be earned.  Begging for it means that you are trying to acquire it without earning it. This is a dishonest way of earning Merit and implies that you are an untrustworthy person.

Those that beg for merit are social outcasts, they are to be shunned and ignored. They have no place in this forum, and they are not welcome here.

I apologize for that. I am not shouting at people, I’m just giving emotion on my post to make a statement. Likewise, thank you for your advise dear sir.

I agree good sir. I don’t get why people are begging for one. I mean there would be a lot more excitement to rank up if you earn each rank with blood, sweat, and probably tears. Hope to be like you someday.

It’s really hard to make a statement if your rank is just low. Being judged quite easily. Thank you for giving emphasis on that one good sir. You have a good one.

Danny put it excellently and if I could put it in context or give a reference I would love to attempt to make this even more clear and salient. Activity acts as a participation trophy for taking place in forum discussions while maintaining a bare minimum requirement not to spam and some other criteria. Merit acts as a trophy for a contribution deemed worthy by another member who has also contributed to the forum and now is able to pay it forward.

Asking or begging for merit would be like a fighter asking or begging for the title and belt without making their mark. This is like an actor looking for a nomination without playing a significant role.

This is a much broader mindset and it can be applied when looking at any endeavor, but you must be willing to be the fool. Be honest with your limited starting knowledge  and do not be afraid to be the fool. Everybody starts somewhere and as long as you are operating on the same base principals and core foundation as the rest of us have agreed to then you are free to progress past being the fool with your own determination. Do not expect to earn merits, ever, rather hope to assist, contribute and inform others in a way that is meaningful and significant. Challenge yourself to learn more and be more, merits will soon become representative of what you have brought forward to the community. In my case, I believe I have been over-merited for my contribution so you might even find yourself lucky in that regard.

It would be great if Danny and Bill didn't commit a classic faux pas in newbie posting - repeating a point made earlier in the thread. You guys are both just repeating the OP.

Instead of acting like you're teaching something, you should be praising the OP for his call out of those that ask/beg for merit OR shutting the f*ck up and moving on to a thread that you can contribute something new to.

The etiquette of post quality applies to each of us, remember that.

Woterry, THANK YOU for joining us in calling out those that ask or beg for merit. Your comparison to "respect" is spot on. If you have to ask for merit you know your post isn't good enough to earn any. Keep the intent true and the reward will come.

Keep it up, Woterry, we're glad you're here!

We've both expanded upon a point made earlier in the thread. That's the point of a discussion; to ebb and flow a conversation about an idea to see whether or not it has any credibility. The small portion of my post that was a "repeat of OP" was to lay out a premise and was only to show the direction for the rest of my post.

I explained an entirely new framework that someone could opt to view merit through and approach their newbie status from a different perspective. I attempted to explain that their status is more of an opportunity than it is an obstacle. I'm confused as to whether this went over your head or if you fail to see this as differing from OP. Either way, I'd have to say you're wrong about this.

Entertain me and clarify; are you saying Danny and I have added nothing to this thread/discussion?
It would appear your post is without any value, unless you are attempting to call us hypocrites and claim our posts are without significance. I fail to see what you've just contributed, by your own criteria.

We're not here to entertain you, Bill. I suspect this attitude or expectation is part of the problem.

Yeah, I'm saying that Danny added nothing to this thread/discussion, and you started your first post praising Danny's comment (which repeated the original post) rather than praising Woterry for his original sentiment.

I explained an entirely new framework that someone could opt to view merit through and approach their newbie status from a different perspective. I attempted to explain that their status is more of an opportunity than it is an obstacle.

I will concede that you do add a new perspective and encouragement to new forum members, as you remind me in the quote above, good on you for it! I was mostly calling you out for your praise of Danny's repeat comments - and I didn't explain that context at all previously.

The greatest hypocrisy on this thread is a Legendary member of this forum repeating posts. Did Danny not read the thread? I mean, he quotes himself so I guess he didn't read the thread at all. Why are you supporting this tone deaf and narcissistic behaviour?

It would appear your post is without any value, unless you are attempting to call us hypocrites and claim our posts are without significance. I fail to see what you've just contributed, by your own criteria.

Calling out senior members of this forum as they fully or partially commit acts of low quality posting AND praising the OP for joining the fight against some of the worst behaviour here is an absolute contribution.

It's unfortunate that you refuse to see where Danny went wrong, where you went wrong for supporting him.

We're not here to entertain you, Bill. I suspect this attitude or expectation is part of the problem.

This might have been lost in translation to some degree. It's a colloquial saying where I'm from, "humor me", meaning something resembling "Help me to understand" or "Play along". I didn't mean to come off pedantic or flippant.

Yeah, I'm saying that Danny added nothing to this thread/discussion, and you started your first post praising Danny's comment (which repeated the original post) rather than praising Woterry for his original sentiment.

It seems there will be reciprocity in our concessions here, because you're right in this instance. I was praising Danny without a word towards OP and this should not have been the case. It was the newbie's idea, and I should have worded my opening statement differently. This is a fair criticism of my post.

Never had this kind of praise and defense from my posts before. I’m truly honored from someone who is already experienced and high ranking. Nothing more but honor for such a simple post yet respected by the “veterans” here. This kind of praise or thankfulness gives me more energy to post and comment a lot more fruitful words for others to appreciate and learn from. Thank you for your recognition good sir. Hope to be like you someday.

Welp, asking for 'karma points' is a cancer of any community with those systems. Just ignore them, they are either too young too understand that it is not how it works, or they do it on purpose, so they won't even care of you crying.

No I don't think it is an honest post. I will go with your first submission that it is a clever strategy to get merit for himself going by the click bait title. Being a newbie I was tempted to click only it see its all BS

Please, just stop stopping us. We dont want to be manipulated and beibg stopped.

All that I have is all that you've given me
Did you ever worry that I'd come to depend on you
I gave you all the love I had in me
Now I find you've lied and I can't believe it's true
Wrapped in her arms I see you across the street
And I can't help but wonder if she knows what's going on
You talk of love but you don't know how it feels
When you realise that you're not the only one
Oh you'd better stop before you tear me all apart
You'd better stop before you go and break my heart
Ooh you'd better stop
