Hi! Discovered bitcoins couple months back from a friend who was an avid fan of the market but like many others didn't have the money to buy before the exponential explosion in value  But joined this forum in hopes of making it big with the currency and was hoping I could get a few tips on how to secure my bit coin wallet? I've read many scare stories on how people's hardrive crashed and how easy it is for hackers to steal your password unless I do some 2309483498 step procedure to protect it

You can back up your wallet by going to File>Backup Wallet

Or you can just store your coins in an online wallet

security depends on your needs and computer skills.

I prefer blockchain.info for "daily/investment" amounts.

For savings I used to use Armory, but it's unbelievable slow, I eventually moved to Electrum. Just make sure to encrypt your wallet.

Nothing really is secure, but let's go by numbers... If you have less than 10 btc! Then online wallet is perfectly safe... If you have less than 100 btc but more than 10,i recommend you to keep chucks if money separately and offline. If you have more that that, then keep chucks on multiple flash drives, and follow a tutorial that teaches you how to encrypt your data, and make sure you encrypt EACH flash drive... Hopes this helps!
