And with exchanges as well.

Kraken, based out of California, does not do any USD trading [Update: They just launched XBT/USD trading], and instead operates an XBT/EUR market.

Bitcoin-Central.net (France) just re-opened, they had been a major exchange before and likely will see a high volume of XBT/EUR trading activity now that they are back.

BiTSTAMP (Slovenia), rivals Mt. Gox and exceeds them on some days.

BTC-E, accepts SEPA transfers, I believe.

Unfortunately the overall number of nodes is decreasing because of the ever growing blockchain size. So less and less people can afford to run the bitcoin-qt and being a full node. Hopefully this will change with further bitcoin-qt version when blockchain size solutions will be implemented.

I'm not sure there is a blockchain size solution...
edit:I saw the sticky about SPV. I haven't tried it, but if it works that could be a solution I guess.

There is something other than SPV as well, but don't hold your breath, it may not be till next year earliest.

Thanks for reminding me of this; I've just searched that list and found my own node on there! Smiley It's not mining however.

That is the numbers of nodes , not hashing distribution
http://blockchain.info/nodes-globe?series=topBlockRelay
this tells a different story than the title.

Also , the number of nodes have decreased to 90k from 200k+ in May.

I'm not all that surprised, when it comes to technology, especially payment solutions, the US has always been antiquated and lagged Europe and Asia.

Kraken, based out of California, does not do any USD trading, and instead operates an XBT/EUR market.

You spoke a few hours too soon.  Kraken just added USD trading this morning! Smiley

US regulators please take note. Money, like electricity and water, follows the path of least resistance.

Agree completely.  The states are driving businesses, convenience, choice away from the US, in the name of consumer protection, of course.  We'll see how long the federal government will tolerate a loosening grasp on the industry as it moves abroad.

the fact that Kraken has added USD trading is a huge sign.

they have been so compulsive about complying with regulations that this means they got some positive signals/approval back from regulators to encourage them to do this.

Well, the situation in the US is still a mess.. there are very few states we can actually offer national currency trading in.  Right now, the ability to trade USD will benefit people outside the US more than inside.

I think it represent the number of node in that area. Not quite sure though...
