This is correct, if you have no way to recover the wallet. The common hardware wallets on the market today (Ledger, Trezor, etc) provide you with a "seed phrase" that allows you to restore your wallet should your device be lost/stolen/damaged.

However, it is likely that a not insignificant number of bitcoins have already been lost by people losing access to their wallets.

It's not that Bitcoin's are gone forever, but more so that you can't access them anymore.

Only a very small number of coins are not accessible anymore, which isn't something that will play a significant role in the future. The higher the price is, the lower the amounts are that people can afford to buy. People at some point will transact with Satoshis in the distant future if Bitcoin lives up to what people expect from it. In other words, plenty enough Satoshis for everyone.

No and No. To add; altcoins do not depend solely on Bitcoin anymore. Most of the top altcoins have their own fiat trading pairs, and in case Bitcoin isn't there anymore for whatever reason, another altcoin will replace Bitcoin and become the main benchmark coin.

Notwithstanding, new bitcoins are being mined all the time, and this is designed to continue for like 120 years. The user community at large is therefore unlikely to run out of bitcoins in the foreseeable future. But yes, deflation will set in at the latest when the last bitcoin will have been mined, and it’s theoretically possible that one day, the last bitcoin will be lost as we all will have succumbed to Alzheimer’s, forgetting our seeds and passwords

Probably when all the people who're holding bitcoins misplace their btc. For example sending bitcoin funds to bcc wallet. By that probably the supply might become zero. But a world like that will never happen lol.

No still it won't be destroyed. If you send to a legacy BCH address like 1xyz then there still will be a private key for it which can be imported into a btc wallet and accessed.
I don't think there is some way by which all the bitcoin can destroyed, yes they can be lost people can forget the private keys, lose them with way to recover but that still won't mean btc is completely destroyed.

The supply is not going to drop, as the Bitcoins that are stored on erased harddrives are not actually gone.
These unspent balances are still registered on the distributed blockchain, even though it's close to impossible to access them.
Bruteforcing the private key is the only way to recover access to them, which requires insane amounts of computing power.

I will say everything will be down to zero in terms of bitcoin market capitalism but not in terms of altcoins. I am pretty sure that ETH will take over the first place as it’s market cap is 100% bigger after the bitcoin market cap.

The thing is, we people relate the crypto world to bitcoin all the time. But it’s not the case and we have to agree that everything is about the Blockchain Technology!!

The B-T is what makes all this and all the altcoins that are present out there. So nothing will happen to alts only bitcoin will go down to zero. :-)

Currently, about 16 800 000 bitcoins have been mined. Some of them, approximately 6 000 000 with access to them. If access to bitcoin is lost, this, in principle, does not mean that bitcoin has disappeared forever. It remains encrypted in the block chainin block-chain. When the corresponding programs appear, they can be restored. They say that quantum computers will have this ability.

once all the bitcoin has been extracted, its price will depend on the demand it has, it is more likely that its price will be higher and having 1 bitcoin will be even more difficult, I do not think the bitcoin will disappear or that an altcoin will take its put or their defect both die.

many bitcoin private key are lost forever , but not that many brainless human in world like that who they will throw bitcoin away like this , i dont think that all supply ever will dissapear in total

well if you are using flash drive for your bitcoin, i think this cannot be happened because, we use flashdrive for our extra storage in computer or laptop's and we can use it in offline and online. but bitcoin is an thing that is needed a internet to access. thats why how can you say that your bitcoin omis on your flashdrive??

Theoretically, yes. But 1 bitcoin has 8 fractional digits. So if only a handful of bitcoins keep available we still have enough to replace the common financial system with bitcoin ...

If you have lose access to your wallet because of the device you use is not usable anymore, those Bitcoins that are stored in your wallet will not be gone, it is just that you can't access it anymore (unless you wrote your private key on piece of paper or somewhere, you can still recover it) but it is still in the Bitcoin network. If all people are stupid enough to lose access to their Bitcoin wallets then it is possible that we will have a shortage in supply in circulation, but that is a very unlikely scenario, not all people are stupid so don't ever think about this again.
