On February 25, Barcelona will host an exhibition of mobile technologies MWC, at which the presentation of new models of smartphones from Samsung - Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 + is planned. The network has already leaked information about these gadgets: fans are looking forward to the model with a camera with the effect of slow-mo and a removable module for printing photos. But, what is most important in the Galaxy S9 model is the ability to mine the crypto currency. This feature is provided due to the powerful processor and video card installed in the device.

Mining cryptocurrencies in smartphones can be done since years, but it has never been really developped, mostly because of devices prices and low performances. I've been always worried about this kind of mining, because mining on a mobile device can be dangerous with the lithium battery which is stressed by heat and abusive plugging time.
We all know what happens to a defective lithium battery : burning or explosion.

I wouldn't try if I would like to keep my device alive a long time

BS.
Mining with a normal computer doesn't pay - you will pay probably more for electricity than what you get out of it.

Now mining with a mobile phone (destroying your battery in the process) is even much worse.

It pays off. I mine Monero with this comps CPU over night when i sleep. Dont say stupidity.

But mining with mobile wil just empty the battery and gain almost nothing in meanwhile.

I feel like this post is stupid. Mobile phones aren't made to mine cryptocurrency, not only is it bad for your battery, the electricity costs will simply be faaaar more than how many dollar cents you mine per year.

There's an exception to this with Electroneum, it's FAKE mining though, still better than fake news.

But, what is most important in the Galaxy S9 model is the ability to mine the crypto currency.

this is more of advertisement than a real efficient way of mining any kind of cryptocurrency. and it is not even wise to do such things with your smart phone!
mining is about efficiently finding a block, or to do the calculations efficiently. if we ignore that, you can say it is possible to mine cryptocurrencies with your old PC from 15 years ago but you will never find a block or have enough hashrate to get anything.
with S9 you may get a half decent hashrate but you will also eat through your battery and shorten the lifespan of your device. and that is not even considering the heat!

I was only able to find info on this in exactly one site:

https://cryptoconsulting.info/2018/news/samsung-galaxy-s9-will-be-mine-cryptocurrency/

...and nowhere else. It's probably safe to assume it's fake news, as it seems to refer to Bitcoin mining specifically, and describes other absurdly laughable features:

Quote
it is known that the device will allow owners of gadgets to become richer by several thousand Satoshi.

Quote
The first thing the owner won’t be able to do is shoot the video. Secondly, the ban on any Bank transfers is immediately triggered. Also, the owner of the device will not be able to call those contacts to which the owner will set restrictions in a sober state.

As others have said, it's currently technologically impossible to mine Bitcoin (profitably) with a mobile device, so it doesn't matter how powerful its processor and graphics card will be lol.

What specific algorithm that Samsung Galaxy S9 is capable of mining? I'll go with what jseverson said, this is just more of an advertising. We all know that crypto name is becoming popular and they are just trying to take an advantage of saying that "hey our machine can mine bla bla bla". Just like the pc market place near my home where people are selling computer sets that are said to be "gaming" but with its specs it wasn't able to do something that buyers are expecting.

Samsung is totally using the word "mining" so that they can gather more sales as it will make someone cool who owns Galaxy S9 will be capable of mining which is not really profitable for the user but only for samsung.

It really is a fake news since it is only posted in one source and in a source that is not credible. It would technically be better to just use regular miners out there or a powerful pc rather than using a mobile phone for mining. Those who will do it in their smartphones IMO are absurd people not thinking about profit and losses. I myself would not dare use samsung galaxy s9 to mine cryptos, I'd rather to use it regularly for other uses.

It depends actually from the cost of the electricity in your region/country and how much hash rate you could generate and of course which coin you choose to mine.
The major parameters is the electricity cost tho Wink

Mining with mobile phones are out here for years now but I think its not convenient to do so since it can totally ruined your mobile phones. Mining is good, but if your cost is greater than what you mined for years then better to look for some other resources which you can find here in forum.

The current smart phones we are using can actually mined bitcoin, I know freebitco.in offer such mining stuff using your phone or laptop but the amount of satoshi is really small as if you were only doing faucet claims per hour. I just don't know what processor samsung will offer that can possibly mined a big amount of bitcoin so that people will get interested in.

How? What are your specs? Mining without a decent GPU is complete waste of time and power. And I think by "normal" computer Roccker doesn't mean any high end computer with a good GPU.

Mining on any phone is useless as no matter how much it advertises, it still doesn't have enough computing power.

Obviously you aren't going to be finding profit in the main big cryptos, BUT if you are going to speculate with altcoins, it is possible to find profit in some of them, specially when they launch, and im pretty damn sure that the S9 is a beast powerful enough to actually give a decent hashrate in one of these.

Ages ago when I was experimenting with mining, I mined some coins with my old computer and I found profit. I think Dogecoin and Monero were one of the few that I managed to mine and actually went up eventually (the rest just went nowhere).

I used this site:

https://www.coinwarz.com/calculators

Just enter the hashrate that your device can generate, and you will see what's best for you to mine. I wonder what the hashrate will be like with the S9+.

Samsung really has some big hidden reasons for including such a feature in its new smartphone. Most of the soft core miners the ones that mine alternate cryptocurrencies, might definitely go for this product rather than purchasing the high-end and extremely expensive machinery used for mining and then there's monthly huge electricity bills.
Maybe more smartphones might follow what samsung has started and make mining, more accurately CHEAP and easy alternate crypto mining available for everyone!

Um yes. Let's buy an expensive piece of device with a lifespan of probably 2 years to mine cryptocurrency while we chat on Whatsapp. Samsung, I know you're innovative but we don't need hipsters to mine Monero while they create filtered emoticons for their hipster buddies. What's next? A Samsung cloudmining phone for everyone to get in on the crypto craze? Oh wait, maybe an ICO and 10 utility tokens to power a smartphone mining ecosystem.

Who cares though, I don't get why it bugs you. For the most part it will be more expensive and time consuming to mine on that device, which means most won't bother. Again I don't know how this effects you unless you think an army of S9 Samsung people is going to take your mining market share. Don't fret there is enough pie to go around for everybody here Wink.

As bitcoin users who have been and is continuosly joining in mining, I think this concept of Samsung Galaxy S9 is giving me a doubt. Mining thru mobile devices will lead your phone to a serious damage in the long run. But lets see howand what will Samsung do about it. Will they have that battery phone survive a month of mining? Well I hope it would.
