Just something else rather useless Samsung is marketing to get people to potentially buy their devices. Anyone with half a brain would know that buying an actual mining device or even just a regular and adequately cooled desktop computer would be able to mine more and make a return more quickly. BS. Mining with a normal computer doesn't pay - you will pay probably more for electricity than what you get out of it.
Now mining with a mobile phone (destroying your battery in the process) is even much worse.
It pays off. I mine Monero with this comps CPU over night when i sleep. Dont say stupidity. How? What are your specs? Mining without a decent GPU is complete waste of time and power. And I think by "normal" computer Roccker doesn't mean any high end computer with a good GPU. Mining on any phone is useless as no matter how much it advertises, it still doesn't have enough computing power. Monero can be mined with a CPU and it's absolutely profitable to mine with CPU. Please don't spread misinformation with zero proof across the forums. GPU mining Monero (Especially with Radeon Vega cards) is usually more profitable than mining with CPUs, but Monero is still profitable with CPUs. Even an i7-6700 non-k processor is capable of mining around $17 in XMR per month after electrical costs at ten cents per kilowatt, and Ryzen CPUs will usually mine around the same amount of Crypto per month. Note these estimations come from Nicehash's calculator and withdrawal fees, etc are not included in these calculations.

So the S9 has a full blown GPU? Riiight.
I find that hard to believe myself. No doubt it can mine what any phone can, which is very little. Beyond that I declare bilge.

What specific algorithm that Samsung Galaxy S9 is capable of mining? I'll go with what jseverson said, this is just more of an advertising.
I don't think it's even for advertising. I mean, I know companies pay the press for building hype and putting good word out, but I seriously doubt Samsung would pay for anything so poorly written and poorly thought out. It won't let you take videos and will freeze your banking apps if you're drunk? I guess I can understand the optimism about mobile mining, but that's just a different level of absurd lmao. This news piece exists for clicks, and likely nothing else. I do hope someone develops a smartphone that specializes in crypto mining in the future though. Pretty much every new feature that's coming out is bloat; we need something new. A smartphone that can earn you money by itself hasn't been done before so...

So hard to believe, not only you. Mobile mining will be sort of possible thing in the future as smartphones will have their powerful GPU's / APU's inside, I don't know how they will apply it but it can be possible. But what I can see on this is purely advertising and its like hyping something so that it can get a lot of attention which results to people buying it. There's an exception to this with Electroneum, it's FAKE mining though, still better than fake news.
I've seen that and from the very start I didn't believe with their mobile mining.

On February 25, Barcelona will host an exhibition of mobile technologies MWC, at which the presentation of new models of smartphones from Samsung - Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 + is planned. The network has already leaked information about these gadgets: fans are looking forward to the model with a camera with the effect of slow-mo and a removable module for printing photos. But, what is most important in the Galaxy S9 model is the ability to mine the crypto currency. This feature is provided due to the powerful processor and video card installed in the device.
IMO it's worthless and irresponsible to give 1K euro for this phone and use it for mining. BTW the CPU and GPU are not that special. It's known for months that S9 will be with Snapragon 845 for US and Exynos 9810 for EMEA. I will take S9 because of the magic camera, not to mine cents.

As bitcoin users who have been and is continuosly joining in mining, I think this concept of Samsung Galaxy S9 is giving me a doubt. Mining thru mobile devices will lead your phone to a serious damage in the long run. But lets see howand what will Samsung do about it. Will they have that battery phone survive a month of mining? Well I hope it would.
Probably I'll buy S9 + for my personal use and not for mining, I mean I won't waste my money just to use this to mine. Mining isn't for mobile phone and maybe I'll believe if they said that it can use for staking coins and that would be more realistic. And I bet the battery won't last long, trust me.

Even though what they claim is true about the new Samsung Exynos 9810 chipset which is 40% more faster compared to last year's model I don't think it is powerful to mine cryptocurrencies. The Galaxy S9 is a 850$ flasgship phone which is more expensive compared to a gtx 1080 graphics card. If you are really thinking about mining I would rather buy a dedicated gpu instead of a expensive device.

Considering the amount you are going to be buying the galaxy S9 and the fact that you can screw your phone's life within a short period, if the reason anyone is buying it is to mine, then I would advise you just use that cash to buy a GPU miner and mine GPU mine-able coins instead. Sure, it may have the capacity to do that, but you have to consider all options here and from the look of things that is more like penny-wise pounds-foolish.

In my stay here in the forum,, it isn’t the first time I’ve encountered thread that advertising Samsung such as this one,, the aim to make the users to be curious and bought those new phones.. I’m not sure if the management of this brands have direct knowledge about it or it is just a fanatic way of supporting that mobile gadgets.. If in the future I would buy something for mining gpu is more practical..

Who gives a shit about the device if you’re making loads of money mining, the device can be replaced.
If you are actually mining, you would know that it is literally impossible to mine using your mobile phone even if the samsung galaxy s9 offers the feature, there are many coins that can be mined using your CPU or GPU and you could try that depending on the coin and the profitability ,other than that it is impossible to make money mining with your phone, rather than damaging your device.

I was only able to find info on this in exactly one site: https://cryptoconsulting.info/2018/news/samsung-galaxy-s9-will-be-mine-cryptocurrency/...and nowhere else. It's probably safe to assume it's fake news, as it seems to refer to Bitcoin mining specifically, and describes other absurdly laughable features: it is known that the device will allow owners of gadgets to become richer by several thousand Satoshi. The first thing the owner won’t be able to do is shoot the video. Secondly, the ban on any Bank transfers is immediately triggered. Also, the owner of the device will not be able to call those contacts to which the owner will set restrictions in a sober state. As others have said, it's currently technologically impossible to mine Bitcoin (profitably) with a mobile device, so it doesn't matter how powerful its processor and graphics card will be lol. I would need to agree with you there. They are probably just saying it can mine cryptocurrency just to gain attention from what the mass media have been spreading about bitcoin and its rise up so quickly. But those media outlets have stopped fudding it up on crypto news as they do not say to much about it when it has lost that same amount just as fast as it rose up. Why? Because it does not make for "good news".

It seems to me that the statement that with the help of a smartphone you can extract cryptocurrencies looks ridiculous. It's only a PR from Samsung. Processor power and battery capacity will not allow it to do. But even if it is possible, the profit margin of this method of mining cryptocurrency will be about zero.

Its a damn smartphone not a mining platform. Please don't tell me that shit. Mining on a phone is never advisable because it's wasting your resources for literally nothing. The life of the phone only goes down and you only keep losing. Samsung phones already have limited life span and mining on it would only make it worse. Not a very smart decision to make.

Please don't tell me that it's worths for mining or we will have a situation of GPU's. Price of our galaxy s9 will skyrocket like price of rx 580. Of course that's not real. But also as far as I know and there was a lot of thread, samsung is going to turn into mining business. And if I remember correctly, Sony smartphones has better cpu/gpu than samsung, not right?

Riding the crypto hype and Samsung tells that their newest phone is able to mine = gets big sales. Please don't tell me that shit. We all knew about this but we are not the only target customers of Samsung. There are many people who are still not educated on how mining works, what they only think is it is able to mine and it generates instant money. Samsung is taking advantage of this.

Mining cryptocurrencies in smartphones can be done since years, but it has never been really developped, mostly because of devices prices and low performances. I've been always worried about this kind of mining, because mining on a mobile device can be dangerous with the lithium battery which is stressed by heat and abusive plugging time. We all know what happens to a defective lithium battery : burning or explosion.
I wouldn't try if I would like to keep my device alive a long time
I would not even think about it or try it as well, considering the amount I bought it. These are expensive gadgets and if I want to mine, there are miners specifically made for that, so trying to get the life of my phone screwed up because it gives me the chance to mine, then that is crazy. Unless of course after some years, some who have enough to throw away by taking the risk can come to give their own testimonies, then I MAY consider that. It is good if they are trying to integrate mining ability into the mobile space, and Samsung has really been doing pretty good trying to stay on top of their game in the smartphone industry. However, like some have said, this would be the biggest mistake anyone would ever make trying to use their phone to mine, and no matter how strong it may be, if that is your sole purpose for buying the phone, then that is not wise spending at all.

But mining with mobile wil just empty the battery and gain almost nothing in meanwhile. Mining with CPU overnight even though it is monero, does not even pay much except in the long run anyway and that is still affecting the life span of the PC as well as its battery considering the amount of electricity you are going to be paying living your system on overnight. Smart phones being now used as a miner, that is more like trying to put your money in the bin, because why would anyone even want to risk such a thing in the first place considering the amount it was bought and considering you could have just gotten a real miner instead.

And the worst part is mining with a mobile phone that can at least get you a nice GPU miner is like trying to be smart when you are not. Smart phones are made for a reason and in as much as it would take a lot for a high capacity laptop to even mine something substantial, like you said, I really wonder what mobile phone will now look like and this is a smartphones that is going to come expensive in the market.
