It is to my understanding that I need to only open port 8333 and 8332 for the API connection and for other nodes connecting to my node.

However I've also saw that Bitcoin connects to the IRC channel through 6667, is it necessary that I open port 6667 inbound?

No, that is an outbound connection only.
