Our website is down right now, so I can't show you the list of merchants, but I Think we got your challenge. Observe this news article: http://globalnews.ca/news/775078/vancouver-businesses-jump-on-the-the-bitcoin-bandwagon/

Website is up: http://bitcoincoop.org/merchants

The overwhelming majority are merchants we approached and convinced to accept Bitcoin. We're about to add some more

That's very generous of you and thank you for doing this.

I'm in the midst of convincing a couple of brick and mortar businesses to accept Bitcoins. However, they are about half the requirements (around USD$1500 revenue + 1-2 employees). Would you consider to reduce the requirements (and rightfully with lower reward)?

If it is one the the top 13 businesses, then you will get the reward. Besides, a business choosing to accept bitcoins is its own reward.

I am delighted to see the positive response. One thing to keep in mind, though, is try to provide some evidence that your submission is a business that did not previously accept bitcoins.

OP: You should post an address for donation. Either to offset your cost, increase the reward to the 13 winners, or to increase the number of prizes available. You pick, but I think you'll see a lot of us support this effort.

I will do that after I pay the rewards at the end of this competition. I do not want anyone to think that I will take the donations and run without paying. If anyone decides to donate at that time, I would use those proceeds for another bitcoin promotional effort.

These gimmick promotions pop up all the time with no one ever receiving the bounty.  Could you you possible put the reserve funds in escrow with a reputable 3rd party?  It would bring some legitimacy to your great idea.

Just sent an email to www.hyattguns.com, the largest gun store in the U.S.A.  Hopefully they will make bitcoin available to pay with.

I agree though, would be nice if the btc was in escrow to legitimize the offer.

Be prepared for a commercial at the beginning.

I do not have anything to gain personally from this, so I don't see what the problem is. In any case, I am not opposed to the idea of putting the funds in escrow, but I really don't want to put in the time and effort to figure out how to do that. If someone can set this up and convince me that the escrow service is legitimate, I will do as you suggest. Although I was kind of looking forward to sending the funds to the winners myself...

I am not a big fan of guns. Being opposed to government coercion by threat of violence, as most bitcoin supporters are, and loving instruments of death seems hypocritical to me. But I suppose my personal opinion on this issue should not govern this contest.

Is there a credible member of the bitcoin community who would like to serve as the judge for this contest?
