I don't think that they are similar, because in poker you hold the cards, you strategizes, meaning its all on your hand and you have total control. But with poker and sports betting, they are very different.  Theres a reason why skilled poker players can make a profession out of their hobby.  They win more than they lose.  I personally know people who make their living off sports betting.

I am not too good in parlay, few times I play in parlay ended up with losing, so I only bet in straight game now, and in sportbetting you can used analysis to help you win the game, the best part is you can observe the game and then bet in the middle of the game, don't used your hunch in sportbetting, because sport betting is not only about luck, but there is a data for you to analysis, so it can increase your winning chance

But I think you will just profited small amounts if you parlays strong team against weak team because of the odds. But at least a win is win, and if you are in a string of bad luck having a good win can change the way you are going to bet, sort of breaking the ice. I think if you are really into sports chances are you really know almost all of the team and you can make a good bet and even if others are betting against the team that you think can pull an upset and make you a good dividends at the end.
