Track an Ethereum theft

Does anyone know if a theft can be possibly traced on the Ethereum Blockchain? Even when it gets to an exchange, that is, to a non-decentralised exchange?

Why are you asking? Are you a victim of a theft, a law enforcer or an aspiring thief?

After the $500 million NEM hack a tagging system was proposed. Maybe Ethereum could introduce a similar systems, but some people have pointed out caveats.

Not sure about the non-decentralized exchange will be revealing the user's identity. But it's possible in my opinion. Most of centralized exchange are giving a mandatory to their users to complete KYC and AML verification.
If the theft was sending all of the amount to the centralized exchange site which applied KYC and AML. It looks possible to know about the real identity of scammers.

sure it's possible because all chain of transactions are traceable. and usually, someone would cash-out to fiat. exchanges know who is depositing crypto and when. so when crock try to cash-out feds can ask who done that.

Well, yes and no. There are some services out there called mixers that gather transactions and send different ammounts in different days and mixed from different accounts so is more difficult to trace and also you can convert to monero or other private coin.

But everything that is moving wallet to wallet is public and registered in the blockchain and on the end they need to cash out. Either they do it peer to peer or by a bank that has their data.

If the thief transfer your tokens to centralized exchange address, so you can try to contact the exchange's official customer service, ask them to provide information about the thief, then maybe you can get the information of the thief.

Without the real proof that the OP was the owner of the original amount in the Ethereum address, there is no way that the exchange service will reveal the identity of the user who is actually a thief.
Changes are not so reliable in the terms of the security. They are actually looking at their own interests in the end.
If the amount that has been transferred to exchange is huge they are already operating with it and for them revealing the true identity of a thief, even if they trust you, would be unacceptable.

You can track! But if you only user! You can not get it back or find about theft

The services to make tracking unreal are so popular, for example the thief can use that one that collecting some different and not tied to each other transactions and then sending them all together so that's just unreal to track them all and understand where is the one you need.
