Hi

Recently i bought some used gpus, and the guy who selled them to me, used a wrong  modded bios version "from the internet",

I checked the original bios and the modded one, and they have diferente memory on bios (LOL), the original bios have samsung and hinyx chips, and the moded only have Hinyx.

Some of them o modded the original bios  and reflashed and they are working fine(even in dual mining), but some of them are running really hot 80+ on solo eth mining.

Question 1

There is any chance of the hot ones have some kind of damage on board caused by wrong bios flash (and mining for about 4 months with wrong bios)?

Question 2

Gpu running hot (80+) can reduce the lifespan of thermal paste or thermalpads on the board and make these units run hot for this reason?

thanks

Well, first of all you have to flash original, not modded bios with correct memory type, then check the temps on cards, if they are still high, then you need to change thermogrease and check again

i'd be more concerned about cycling between hot and cold. Electrical components contract and expand due to heat and cold. Keep it on moderate temperature all the time and I think it will prolong the life of unit with everything else being in order.

Saying that it is a big topic in itself.

I a little bit confusing at first times read your post, please don't call it solo eth mining, better use single mining. If you are using this word "solo eth mining" it can be mean that you are doing solo mining not pooled mining.

Qs 1
A wrong bios version potentially to damage your cards, mainly it has been used for an extended period.

Qs 2
Offcourse, your compound or thermal paste would be so dry and un-useful.

Are those GPUs the same model or assorted?
Because there are some GPU that can really reach beyond 80°C.

If you can tell more information, we might find out what's the problem.
like:
  • GPU Models
  • Mining Area Temperature
  • Installed BIOS by the seller
  • Default BIOS you re-flashed
