So phillipma57 who seems pretty smart said on another thread that gpus were more profitable. I thought that sounded kind of crazy, but I'm a noob, so I didn't say anything. That was probably about a month ago. A couple of days ago I was undecided what to do with my gpus after the zclassic snapshot, I had been on the donate pool for feb, so I put it on nicehash while I thought it over. I had never put my gpus there, but I was suprised at my earnings. I'm getting .0006688 a day on  four 8gb rx580s. That means each card is getting .0001672 btc per day.
My ASICs are doing about .00008361 per T/Hs per day. So multiply that by 2, and 2 T/Hs on my ASICs is .00016722 per day.

1 8gb 580 = .00016720
2 T/Hs ASIC = .00016722

I was way suprised. My 4 580s are earning the equivalent of 8 T/Hs on nh. I guess I just assumed that since you couldn't mine bitcoin with gpus anymore, that was that. So I'm not mining btc. But I still get it. That works. I'm adding the equivalent of 8 T/Hs to my small operation. I have to reconsider now my plan to expand my ASICs. This is giving me a lot to think about.

Most likely they will move this to alt coins.

As to asic vs gpu.

Gpus three year warranties from real companies make them very attractive

I don't know if that's a self fulfilling prophecy or what, but that's what happened. Why? I'm not talking abut mining altcoins, I'm talking about my bitcoin operation, and the best way to expand it. My plans had always revolved around ASICs and slowly growing my capacity by adding machines over time when possible. Now this literally changes my thinking, gpus have many other advantages, less heat/power/noise, the ability to be added more frequently in smaller amounts, allowing for faster growth and more flexibility. WTF does it have to do with altcoins? I mean sure, I mentioned zclassic in passing, but that's ancillary. I guess it doesn't matter but it seems more relevant to those pursuing bitcoin than to the altcoin community. Whatever, you were right.
Cheers!

The problem is Bitmain's Antminer S9 is already several years old and too inneficient for keeping up with the huge increase in difficulty from when it was released in 2016. Current GPU's are using cutting edge manufacturing and are therefore more efficient in comparison. If Bitmain upgrades their miners to use 10nm and 7nm manufacturing processes this year as rumored it should increase the output considerably.

https://news.bitcoin.com/bitcoin-hardware-manufacturer-bitmain-made-a-profit-of-up-to-4-billion-last-year

Quote
The report went on to predict that Bitmain will further increase its dominance of the mining business this year, noting “Bitmain will likely lead the cryptocurrency asic industry and migrate some of its chips to 10nm and the most advanced 7nm. That will make the company one of the top five users of TSMC’s 7nm in 2018, with demand comparable with Qualcomm’s, HiSilicon’s, or AMD’s.”

Nicecash miner just rents our Mining power on any mining hardware (asics or gpus). the payment for this service is thru bitcoin.

If ETH become POS, many gpu miners will switch mining into more profitable altcoin. If that happens, that POW altcoin difficulty will increase so much and might affect your expected earnings in bitcoin.

Based on TOP 10 Coinmarket cap. Ethereum and Monero are mineable only thru GPU. the rest are POS

The measures of profiatable always different for every miner, I think. Especially for experienced miners, they have own calculation method for deciding which coin are more profitable than others. There are miners doing solo mining with newly released coins or else trying to mine minor coins and hold it for a few time. And so on...

Almost all newly miner always following a hot trend, they didn't have enough experience and confidence to do something different, but again this is about the experience. So, don't to worry about some coin become POS nor Difficulty increased, etc.

My bitcoin ASICs are also limited to sha256, while my gpus can be pulled out of my btc operation at anytime if I see a need or desire.  I was getting and holding everything new, still holding them, but trying nh for a month. It's kind of a trap having worked this out, because I enjoy alt coins, it's more interesting and fun in a way. My ASICs just run, check the heat/air, check in every so often, and that's it, they just run. But my real goal is bitcoin, and now that I know how much capacity I can add using my gpus, it's going to be hard to keep them off of it.

that's a good amount for you. I am trying to mining with my rig too, I have 5x rx560 and it gives me a good hashrate and the average is 58Mhs-70Mhs and I have another 1x rx570 and it gives me the average 26Mhs-28Mhs. and per day, I can earn 0.0002btc-0.0004btc so in every 3 days I can reach 0.001xxx btc and its send into my nicehash wallet.

I am mining eth for all of my vga on nicehash too. but unfortunately, right now the price of rx570 and rx580 it's too expensive and I think it's not worth to buy so I think maybe I will buy rx560 or 1050ti which is cheaper than the other.

The long warranty along with the solar power I access makes the gpus very attractive to me
