its really depends on a lot of factor Smiley

Ambient temp...

You dont need 100% fan speed if you can keep your gpu under 70C or lower with 50% or less fan speed
You can set the target gpu temp with mining software or tune software , set the fan auto and you are good to go ....

Hello guys i wonder what fan speed is best for our GPU on mining?
100% or Auto ?

I'm no expert, because I've just recently begun mining with my GPUs, but I've been keeping my cards very cool (65c or cooler). I do not run my cards at 100% TDP, something closer to 75% and I leave the fans to auto. Depending upon the design of the fan, leaving it on 100% fan-speed may or may not significantly affect the life of your GPU.

I would monitor the temperature of your cards and prioritize that, because from there you will be able to tell if you need more fan speed. It depends on your cards, your rig, your TDP and other settings; but my biggest concern is keeping the cards cool and prolonging their lifespan as much as possible. This leads me to use whatever fan speed keeps my cards below 65c, Auto has worked well and normally keeps fan speeds below 40%. You don't want to overwork your fans for no benefit.

I wouldn't use Auto, in my case the cards overheat (Above 80 C). I've adjusted them to 100% and keep temperatures between 65-68C. On the other hand though, you are wearing your fans prematurely, they are not expensive to buy though. 80-90% would be ideal if you are not having any overheating issues.

.

if you are nvidia tdp of 75% and fan speed of 75%  is pretty much bullet proof. on msi afterburner

Setting fans at 100% kills them faster

I don't use windows as I have lots of rigs  I use smos

I set a minimum fan speed at 60%  and smos adjusts.

I set gpu temp max to 69c  and smos adjusts.

I set tdp to 75 or 80%

I use mostly nvidia 1080ti's

100% will kill your fans.

Not sure about ATI cards, but Nvidia cards allow you to set a temperature threshold that lets the fans operate at whatever speed is required while limiting the amount of power the cards draw.  Not quite auto, it's a bit more complex, but super effective.

I set my Fan speed to 90%. as long as my GPU is on 60 to 65 degree Celsius i will not increase my fan to max. its very noisy. However, Fans are replaceable so nothing to worry. Just expect a shorter GPU Fan lifespan at about 2 years maybe?.

I started mining last year May 2017 and up to now my GPU fans are running good @ 90%.

Typically I set the auto speed vs temp. The ambient temperature in my mining room stays around 39C, and GPU's temp is quite stable at 47C. For manual setting, I always set it at 75%.

Use Auto with MSI afterburner.  You can adjust the Fan curve to your liking. I like to Keep my gpus below 65c  nice and cool.  However most people keep it below 70c.   Generally, I set it starting out 60 percent fan speed if gpu reaches 60c.  If temps go to 75 degrees it will automatically set it to full 100 percent fan speed.  So i have a straight line from 60 percent fan speed at 60c to 100 percent fan speed at 75c.

My gpus always stays between 62-65 degrees and fan speed always tends to range from 60-70 percent depending on time of day.  I do have good proper exhaust fan ventilation.

I do not like fixed manual fan  settings because if there was ever a hot day, or your box fans circuit breaker trips, your gpus will start roasting up and climb up in temps b/c you had no auto setting to ramp up the fan speed if temps go too high.  Plus always running out fan speed at 100 percent will wear out the fans so having auto settings will slow the fans down  if the gpu temps is low

Heres some free but good advice....  If you have windows in your mining room, cover the windows so the sun cannot shine into the room.  The sun adds radiant heat and can heat a room up very fast!  Use curtains, blinds or even tint, cardboard or paint the glass on the windows.

It depends on what situations you are faced, the main function of GPU fan is to keep your card cool. As long as auto setting giving your cards temps below 75, keep going with it. Except your cards temps going hotter with auto setting, you could maximize your cards fan speed. But remember 100% fan speed setting would make your cards fan more quickly damaged but a fan can be replaced with a new fan right?

80 to 85 %  or less should do ... that way you save the fans or they last longer and not a lot of noise, they stay cool enough.

mine are set at 75 to 85 % usually stay below 62 C all year long , i have 14 cards and always adding more, one or two cards every two month or so .

I think the best idea is to set fix speed of the fans - about 60-65%
by this speed I'm aiming to prolong the lifespan of fan's motor and it is enough to keep the card temperature around 65-70 degrees and noise level is also acceptable . so it is win to win

Fans are consumables. Replacement fans time by time is much easier the replacement whole GPU. So 100% fan speed is not so scary. But using MSI AB for example one can setup fan speed curve from 40% fan speed at 50C to 100% at 70C temp

My opinion, do auto fan if high temperature we add another fan so that the VGA card fan is not easily damaged.
In southeast asia there are only two seasons of a dry season and rainy season, sometimes in very hot weather, I set 100%, depending on the weather situation.

I have always thought that is is best not to run them at full wack 24/7. I will usually see what the temperature of the cards are and adjust if they are too hot.

On the other hand it is cheaper to replace a fan than to replace a gpu.

The simplest thing to say is that it depends on your preference. I'd recommend having the fan at 100% by 80C might be a good balance for noise reduction Personally, I have my XFX BE 7970 set to hit 100% fan usage at 60C, ramping up linearly from 30% fan at <= 40C.

There is no correct or right way to set the fan speed.
I have many cards from 2014 that are still running with an average temperature of 85 degrees. And they never had a problem.

Byt if you wanna be more careful you can trust Nvidia and use the temperature they advise, so 75 degrees.
I personally set the minimum fan speed to 50% because I want to avoid driver related problems

A fan is $10-$15 to replace.  Let that GPU burn up and see how much it costs to replace then!  No reason a GPU should be ran at 76C or above unless you live in the Jungles of Vietnam.
