To celebrate Brie Host's launch and promote our service, we will be doing a bit of a promotional Giveaway, or is it a Contest? Either way, it's FREE and provably fair!

This promotion has been modified, anyone in the world can apply easily and is eligible, so long as participating in such a promotion is legal in your locality. Since the Block Erupter's main use is now a coffee warmer, I have changed the top prize to a month of KVM 2048. If you win first prize and really want the Erupter, I will honor the original prize (One Block Erupter and one month of KVM 2048 or KVM-EZ 2048).

Prizes:
1 - First Prize is a a free month of KVM 2048 or KVM-EZ 2048 hosting courtesy of Brie Host
2 - Second Prize is a free month of KVM 1024 or KVM-EZ 1024 hosting courtesy of Brie Host
3 - Third Prize is a free month of KVM 512 or KVM-EZ 512 hosting courtesy of Brie Host

Term of Promotion: Starting October 1st and ending October 15th at 11:59PM Eastern Standard Time. Winners will be announced within 3 days of promotion end.

To enter, simply visit The Giveaway Form and send a message using your name and email, you can write whatever you'd like in the body of the message. Those who sign up for an account will also be entered. No purchase required!

The winners will be determined using a provably fair method which will be outlined here. For each participant, we will take the first name, last name and A SECRET (MD5 Hash of the official secret, which will be used to determine a winner: dd07368455329a2dd42439476a282491).

These fields will be put into a string, consisting of the First Name, Last Name, then the SHARED SECRET. e.g. "Satoshi Nakamoto Bitcoin is Great" ('Bitcoin is Great' being the SECRET here) and hashed using MD5. For our dear friend Satoshi, the MD5 hash would be: e9d93c2b2fc7129c0c45f3aefc6f8ee4.

The prizes will be given in order of who has the lowest MD5 hash. To win first prize, our friend Satoshi would need to get the lowest number. For the purposes of this sweepstake / contest, we will consider 0 to be the lowest and z to be the highest, a being larger than 9. We will ignore capitalization in our determination of the lowest number.

Let's say Guy Fawkes is also playing. "Guy Fawkes Bitcoin is Great" yields an MD5 hash of: 2245cf9219887d090f3d36d24ef610f4

If Satoshi and Guy were the only two playing, it would be Mr. Fawkes who would win the first prize. Luckily Satoshi is a good sport!

Terms and conditions of promotion:
-You must consent to having your name or handle published on BrieHost.com, on our Twitter, and in the Forums. This is needed to prove the fairness of the promotion. You may choose not to consent however this will disqualify you from any prizes you have won
-Contestant must be 18 or older at the time of entering, or must be of valid age to participate in their locality
-Only one entry per person, if you are found using a handle or sock puppet account you will be disqualified
-Sweepstakes only valid where not restricted or prohibited by law
-All entries must be in by October 15th, 2013 at 11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time. Any member signing up after will not be considered

-Prizes will be dispatched no later than one week after the end of the promotion

Yeah, not giving my address to some random company  that I don't know.

Hey, no worries. But remember all companies were once some random company nobody knew Smiley I realize we are just starting right now, and don't have much rep yet. We are looking to change that by making hosting easy, efficient and maybe even a little bit fun.

Rest assured, we will not sell or rent your information to anyone. Our privacy policy states "Your data is only shared with or collected by other companies only to fulfill your order or provide services you requested." and we stand by it.

I just sign up for an account, what next's?

Just sign up for an account at https://www.briehost.com/register.php and watch this thread where we will announce the end of the promotion, and announce the SECRET. In the following days we will calculate and announce the winner here as well.

The provably fair part is that you can verify the results for yourself. I have already published the hash of the secret, proving I know it now, and will have to divulge a secret which gives the same hash. Non-winners will be able to to hash the their own entries to make sure that the winners hash is indeed lower than theirs.

This is a bit of a crazy promotion, so please let me know if I should explain anything further!

Sounds like a great idea. Are the web hosting plans exchangable for money, or site credit?

Thanks! To keep legal headaches to a minimum we are simply offering the prizes directly to the winner, and only in the US this time.

We are getting ready for a November Promotional Giveaway, so if people like getting cash equivalents then we may be offering it then! Need to do some research on that. If you have more info on giveaways for your local state our country, please share so I can add consideration for you in the next round.

Your drawing method is not provably fair. As it is, you could have generated a secret that results in a particularly low MD5 hash for you some name (real or fake), and enter the contest later using an alt account.

I'm not saying that you would do anything so nefarious, but you need some element unknown to you to prove fairness. For example, you could use the hash of the first BTC block that is mined after the contest has officially ended.

That being said, this is a nice contest. Count me in.

You are quite right, I love this forum because there are people like you who are smart people and critical thinkers who speak their mind!

I really like your idea of using the first block to be generated after the promotion period. Since the contest is over halfway though and already has got a fair amount of entries, which have already been given their hash/tickets, I feel it would be unfair to change the rules now. Entrants can not be working for Brie Host or any of it's affiliates, and winners must agree to be announced publicly in order to win.

We will absolutely be using the first block after promotion period for the next promotion we run!

How should we describe this promotion? Provably fair (if you trust us)? Provably "fair"? Probably fair?

Our first rule/term/condition might help with the provable bit, since you will be able to speak to the winners yourself, as to ascertain if they are real winners or sock puppets Wink

The October Giveaway entry period is now over. We are processing the remaining entrants and will post the winners very soon. Thank you to all who participated!

We will be processing the last entries and contacting the winners very soon. Once that the winners have claimed their prizes we will post the winning hashes here.
