Hello, I am trying to connect my 5 erupters to my pi to start mining.
I bought a usb hub from ebay, and a 3500mA 5v power supply to ensure power is not an issue.
I follow the instructions on
http://learn.adafruit.com/piminer-raspberry-pi-bitcoin-miner/install-cgminer
but when I connect the first erupter the hub "dissappears" from the pi:

Code:
pi@bomberb17 ~ $ lsusb

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0424:9512 Standard Microsystems Corp.

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0424:ec00 Standard Microsystems Corp.

Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0951:1625 Kingston Technology DataTraveler 101 II

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 1a40:0101 Terminus Technology Inc. 4-Port HUB

Bus 001 Device 006: ID 1a40:0101 Terminus Technology Inc. 4-Port HUB

***(I connect the first erupter to the hub)***

pi@bomberb17 ~ $ lsusb

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0424:9512 Standard Microsystems Corp.

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0424:ec00 Standard Microsystems Corp.

Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0951:1625 Kingston Technology DataTraveler 101 II

pi@bomberb17 ~ $ ls /dev/*USB*

ls: cannot access /dev/*USB*: No such file

Power is definetely not an issue, I also tried cutting the red wire on the cable that connects the pi and the hub to ensure the pi is not getting backpower.

The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

Does the hub work well under windows?

If you connect other device (keyboard, mouse) does it work?

Are you able to measure if the 5V are still present after the Erupter is connected?

In my setup with Erupters + RPi I found bfgminer more stable... but that's not the issue here Smiley

Good luck.

Maybe try chucking Minepeon on another SD card and see if it works if the hub recognises devices.

The hub works ok on windows.
I connected my usb thumb drive on the pi and it also works.

Do you have your RPi SO updated/upgraded?

Have you tried Minepeon as Zeek_W suggested?

You say power is definitely not an issue, but all indications are that it is.

What happens when you use the 2500mA supply that came with it and only one erupter?

You should try Minepeon, it gives you the choice of cgminer or bfgminer.  Just what usb hub did you buy, not all hubs work with the Pi.  D-Link and Roswell work for me.  I have 16 eruters running on 2 Roswell 10 port hubs and a single D-link 7 port hub.

I have found that running the hubs with a .5 amp headroom they run more consistent, fewer HW errors.  I'm getting 5.38 Gh/s from this, it's really not cost effective at $60 a Gh/s.

I'm not using raspberry pi for mining but I had a lot of problems with some usb hubs when I tried to set up small home server. At the end D-Link 4 Port did a trick for me and it's stable now. Same as others I recomend you to play with power options, different usb port/hub...
