Earlier this week, Hydro-Quebec warned that there won’t be cheap power available for every company that wants to set shop in the province and suggested it may set a higher tariff for cryptocurrency miners. On Friday, the government -- the utility’s owner -- questioned the companies’ contribution to the province’s economy

Comments add to Hydro-Quebec saying can’t accommodate everyone

That was pretty obvious from the start.

There is a limit to how much energy they can produce that cheap and they will not be able to supply at 2 cents every mining company that sets there. If they would do this in no time they will have to import energy and deal with the consumers that will have their tariffs increased.

There is no unlimited energy and certainly no free energy.
Somebody has to cover the costs and why would the government spend that for a company with 1-2 employees that will probably pay zero taxes, create no jobs, just drain your resources.

mine it could be anywhere, including on the moon. .the most important thing to have the goods in the mine, for example in the moon you can mine the sand and the land but the mine you want to take where and where to sell ...?
you better mine the money in bitcoin, without you having to find the mine results of the month.

OP's thread subject and the content of his post does not have anything to do with each other.  Huh  The article quoted talk about

Hydro-Quebec that wants to charge Crypto currency miners more for their electricity. The premier said Bitcoin miners are not

adding value to their community. I disagree with him, because Bitcoin miners created jobs for people working in these mines and

they sell their coins and use the income to buy local products and services. They also add tax income on all products and services

that are bought and paid for in Bitcoin.  Wink

As time goes on more and more solar miners will appear, it's definitely a way to get a hell of an roi and drop energy cost. They may complain about power usage but if renewables increase in use by miners it equals it out pretty well except for big corps who use tons of power regardless.

If the miners want to go green, they could start by investing their own money in solar and wind.
But those solar miners you speak of and we all are waiting for are preferring to act like leeches.

Solar panels don't appear out of nowhere.
They cost money, they need maintenance, they need connection to the grind, everything means money.

Right now the province, at least according to what they say, can live pretty easy on just hydro alone.
Why would the government invest people's money to accommodate miners that give close to zero in return and that can pack their bags at anytime or even worse go bankrupt ?

It's like you renting a house to a couple, and then you decide to build a second room because they might have a child.

It's an expression,it means that if you want to do it you can do that on the moon, but not here where I decide.

As above, it's an expression.
Jobs? How many jobs? 1-2?  Most of the owners of those farms will never set foot there, all can be done remotely.
