Sport Sponsorship & Cryptocurrency - a growing market

I just read recently that Espanyol have signed a sponsorship deal with SportyCo (https://www.rcdespanyol.com/en/news/sportyco-new-sponsor-of-rcd-espanyol/_n:6622/), becoming the second 'major' soccer team to establish a partnership with a cryptocurrency after Arsenal announced their partnership with CashBet (https://www.arsenal.com/news/club-welcomes-cashbet-coin-new-partner). Arguably the Arsenal deal is the more significant of the two, with the global recognition that they attract, but Espanyol upped the ante with their recent victory over Real Madrid.

There have already been individual tie ups with sports people in various fields, but these deals definitely increase the mainstream exposure of cryptocurrency, and a growing acceptance that crypto is here to stay. Whether the companies involved actually go on to be big players in a few years time is another matter, but I think these will be the first of many deals made over the coming years. Sports teams, especially in soccer, do tend to gravitate towards deals with gambling sites, so the Arsenal deal should not come as a huge surprise.

By next season, I reckon there could well be deals in all of Europe's top soccer leagues (England, Spain, Germany, France & Italy), and other major international sports are sure to follow. F1 and golf would be a prime candidates for lucrative agreements to be struck, especially with core viewers matching the demographics of many cryptocurrency investors. Watch this space.

These big name sponsorship deals are great for helping get cryptocurrency known and adapted. The Arsenal partnership is a massive one that gives exposure to 10s of millions of people.

I see that BetterBetting has snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan as a advisor and heard him mentioning BetterBetting after winning the World Grand Prix tournament. I have also seen many more like DFScoin etc sponsoring local and community teams.

All this is positive for cryptocurrency as it becomes more mainstream.

Just looking into it a bit more and noticed that Jetcoin sponsored Hellas Verona back in 2014, so they were way ahead, unfortunately too far ahead for them I guess. They don't seem to be listed as a sponsor on Hellas Verona's official site anymore, but fair play to them for being first to strike a deal. I read about Ronnie's involvement with Better Betting, actually did the airdrop for them and got some free coins in the last week, not a bad one either. That's probably the way most deals will go, at least for the moment anyway, where companies do tie ups with big names in sports to get exposure. Think there's a few footballers already on the books for some of the sports related currencies, but sponsorships will bring the big money and attention. I really think F1 is the biggest and best route, has huge global coverage and hits the mark in terms of the type of people who watch it. Either way, will definitely see more sponsorship agreements hitting the headlines, at least until it isn't news anymore and they're just seen as commonplace deals.

Motorsport has broken it's duck in the blockchain sponsorship game, with Dragon Inc. getting behind Team Brit (announced last month on the 26th February). Team Brit are a disabled racing team aiming to compete at Le Mans by 2020. Dragon coin is a decentralized currency for casinos and players, and the ICO just finished recently (listed on coinmarketcap as of today). As mentioned previously, gambling and sports have already established an affectionate affiliation, so the fact that Dragon have put their hat in the ring and sponsored a racing team should be viewed as natural progression.

It's great to see crypto getting mainstream attention. With such involvement, crypto is soon going to be a major player in world finance and hence attract more regulatory measures.

You are right. I'd like to add to your list the fact that COSS (Crypto One Stop Solution) sponsored a football game of Hellas Verona. You can easiky Google that image if you'd like to.

I don't think Hellas Verona are (or really was) partnered with COSS as far as I can tell.  COSS was linked with Jetcoin who (as mentioned in a previous post) did sponsor Hellas Verona a couple of years back, but looking on their website, it looks as though they are no longer partners (they're not listed now anyway). On the Jetcoin website they still state they are partners, but I get the feeling it hasn't been updated in a while. Motorsport is the big play in my opinion anyway.

Just read that Omnitude have announced a partnership with Williams Martini Racing, the first cryptocurrency to link up with an F1 team (as far as I know). Lucrative for both parties, crypto is going to move quickly to build involvement in F1, look out for more partnerships being announced over the next 12-18 months.
