I do not agree with his reasons. He should have at least kept his first thoughts of Bitcoin being better than a currency and exciting because it is cheap, but this second thought and the reason he gave with the purchase of drug with bitcoin is an insubstantial reason.

Drug has been existing way long before cryptocurrency, so what makes it different and why pin it on cryptocurrency like it is the starting point to the cause of danger to the society or 'death' like he so called it. He should come up with a better reason why it is super risky and the only one I see here is the huge volatility, and if anyone is dying because of that, it is as a result of their ignorance and greed.

Risk in cryptocurency is a common knowledge and risk is also common in all kind of investment. Why do people invest in cryptocurrency? Because they see the potential rather than risk.
People who did not take a risk will not improve in their live. So don't risk to scare people but use risk to encourage them. Bill Gates never be that rich if he did not take a risk.

His comments on the cryptocurrency market are true, it is a very risky market. You can lose up to 90% of your investment if you make the wrong decision. Take a look at the Altcoins that have had a very high price, and now they are losing 70-90% of their value.

I hope in every investment there is risk involved but the thing is finding a good potential project is always difficult in order to make money but people are finding the different way to make more income with cryptocurrency but not sticking to the single coin.

If you only want someone to speak about one aspect and shut up about another, it's censorship. I do agree that the drug reason is overblown though, and he obviously overstates crypto's anonymity focus.

Rather than not speaking out about the negatives though, I would prefer people don't speak out about issues they don't know about; something Bill Gates did in this case.

If the billionaires , millionaires, institutional investors says bitcoin is going down, risky, will not last long, a bubble, a ponzi, a scam,

Just do the opposite. Buy more bitcoins. There is no people in the world that will tell you exactly how to become rich like them.

I do not agree with his thesis about the fact that crypto-currencies directly kill people. Yes, coins are used to finance terrorism, drug trafficking and other illegal activities. But even before the advent of crypto currency criminals and terrorists found the means for their illegal activities. It's like blaming uranium for the consequences of nuclear weapons. By themselves, crypto-currencies do not harm and do not kill people. People do it. And responsibility can not be transferred from them to crypto-currencies.

Every tradable good is used to indirectly/directly finance terrorism and enable money laundering. The biggest one of them is, you guess it, cash...using his line of logic then we probably should get rid of cash before cryptocurrency itself :/

Interestingly, check out how Amazon Book is being used for money laundering here: http://fortune.com/2018/02/22/money-laundering-books-amazon/

Of course Bill thinks that cryptocurrency trading is risky. You have to build a platform that would be totally monkey-proof. He never made it with Windows hence the skepticism.

Kidding aside, I am really surprised that Bill doesn't recognize the blockchain since he was always a) a visionary b) a humanitarian. A hidden agenda maybe?

In most cases they are being asked for their opinion on various matters, which basically forces them to at least say something, and when they don't really care about a certain subject (which is the case when it comes to Bill Gates and crypto), they mostly come up with terms that the crypto community gets nuts over. People need to look at the context of his words, and not directly jump on him like he said something horrible. Could he have used a different tone and wording? Sure, but who care anyway? Bill Gates by far doesn't come close to what sort of baboon Warren Buffett is, because this fastfood addict takes everything to the next level, and actually attacks Bitcoin, which is something Bill Gates didn't do, and likely won't do later on.

yes, completely I agree with you
again and again bad news about crypto, this is a regular thing and has happened continuously. there is nothing to be afraid of with this sort of thing, I agree with you. Behind all the major risks is volatility.
and greed that makes people sick

I do not quite understand the whole point of the article, and that she should inform that Bill Gates is changing his mind about crypto currency? The last statement that he links crypto-currencies to terrorism and criminals is not encouraging at all.

If I think all jobs have a risk. But what is said bill gates is not wrong, because the risk to play in cryptocurrency is very high. So every individual should be able to take the right decisions and can accept the worst risk in case of failure.

Bill Gates is an extremely smart man that I have a lot of respect for. To be fair, it is risky.

I personally don't consider Buffett's comments as a direct attack. His track record speaks for itself, and I'd say his "gut feel" is at least worth something. Still, he did concede that he basically knows nothing about the subject, which is basically a disclaimer not to take him seriously. To each his own, I guess. It's not like comments from big shots matter anyway, unless they actually start putting their money where their mouth is.

Bill gates comments on crypto-currency are in correct I know that his point of view is somewhat legit but still his comment shows that he's not so much knowledgeable about the subject in detail. Yeah, crypto-currencies have been used by criminals as well, but that doesn't mean that the only usage of such digital currencies is limited to crime or drugs.

However, in some sense I agree with his logic about the fluctuations in the rates of Bitcoin and other crypto-currencies, as those might not be favorable for very poor people, but those people should invest only what they can lose.

Bill Gates is just stating what all of us already knew.  It's just a warning on the dangers of cryptocurrency, if not regulated.
